I am looking for the "best" Reverb pedal, to add a little Reverb without sacrificing any tonal changes, running into the front of my amps without effect loops.
What's your favorite?

good question. every reverb i've ever tried in front of any amp i've ever played sounded like ass, especially when compared to what it sounded like through the loop. may it was the pedals i was using and not the amp. i've used fuchs, boss, and electro-harmonix reverbs before and love all of them, but only when used through the loop. so maybe you want to stay away from these.

The H&K replex has a so-so reverb, but I liked to set up two tape delays with different times and very fast decay ... has a thick vintage reverb effect and does not tamper with the tone even at high gain.

I second the T-Rex Roomate. It's not the cheapest but it's a tube driven reverb and one of the nicest units out there. Their replica delay isn't bad either ;)

I use a Dr. Scientist RRR into the front of my amp and it's heavenly...very rich and warm sounding. Doesn't change my tone at all.

thread really belongs in the Effects, Pedals, Strings section on the forum,

OP can delete the thread and start a new one

I don't have a reverb pedal, don't like what effects do to the amps tone and my amps have reverbs.

I've heard good things about the Hermida pedal.

generally that is only done after the member has a 1000 post or more here.

Reverbs, Echo's and pretty much any time based delay device BELONGS in a loop imho. This is especially true of high gain or overdriven amps. The Verbrator, Good Verbrations, and the new Echos, are all made to run in front of an amp, but will shine when plugged through a loop. This is true of most of these types of pedals. It becomes a "traffic jam" at the amps input, trying to process the guitar, an echo or reverberated guitar, etc....You can sometimes take the second jack on (for example) a Fender twin, feed the reverb or echo, and return it to the unused first channel. You'll get volume and tone for the delay only, but this is only true if you are using a pedal for overdrive, not the amp.

I've had a Boss RV-3, Holy Grail, Mr. Springgy and a Fender RI reverb tank, and the best reverb I've had so far is the one I have now...

I use this in front of my tweed Deluxe clone and it sounds very natural. I even like it better than the Fender built-in reverb I've had in some of my amps.

I have been using a Kilpatrick Audio Lush Puppy in front of my Princeton NR and it sound great solo, but when I add a OD pedal.. not so good..

EHX Holier Grail. I love the classic enclosure and the versatility of the reverb types. I turn the reverb off in my amp because of this bad boy.

thanks for the info, andy. i didn't know you could run effects into an unused channel like that. btw, the good verbrations sounded fine running in front of my amp on the clean channel, but really metallic on the b channel unless i readjusted the controls significantly. however, once i plugged it into the loop, easily one of the best reverbs out there. it's the only reverb i've played that sounds like natural reverb. fantastic stuff.

+1 on the Dr Scientist RRR. You have 9 DIFFERENT reverbs. Halls, plates, rooms, and a rotary emulation (thats actually pretty good).

its great. as an engineer, im very picky with reverb, and usually skip it all together until recording, and then use a high end convolution reverb.... but this thing sure as hell gets the job done on stage AND recording guitar!

The cool thing is the wide range you have on the Mix knob, and you can go from just a bit of makeup gain (for volume loss while adding more 'verb) to full on BOOST with it. makes a GREAT clean boost as well if you've got the mix knob turned down!

I have tried a couple of the pedals in this thread for my board for running direct, I have ended up with the Digitech Hardwire Reverb, it's a really great sounding pedal and pull's off the Fender reverb sound very well.

Thanks for the kind words. That unused channel is very good for that. Like an extra effects loop input.

I love the Tech 21 Boost RVB. Rather than give you a room and a hall setting, you just adjust the length of the reverb from a small room to a canyon-like sound. The tone knob can go bright like a Fender reverb or very dark and subtle. The feedback knob helps emulate the wetness of spring reverb and can also produce a sort of "clean feedback" on extreme settings. The rumble knob adds an interesting low-end depth to the sound. The level will go 100 percent wet. The boost lets you compensate for the perceived volume drop with deep reverb, or you can set it for a solo boost with reverb.

I think it works great in front of an amp, but I don't run my amp very far into overdrive. One nice feature is that the pedal has a very low output impedance -- lower than the SHO, I believe -- and since it's the last pedal in my chain, it really preserves the signal to the amp.
