Anybody know who played guitar on these "Them" recordings? Pretty sure it was a (UK) session guy circa 1966-67.

I heard "Baby Please Don't Go" on the radio yesterday. Way cool clean electric guitar tone and playing. And teenage Van Morrison doing a his best Howlin Wolf imitation on lead vocals. Great stuff.

Sounds like the same guy/guitar/amp on "Gloria."

I had a 'dual sided hit' 45 record of these songs when I was a kid. Totally wore it out.

Don't know who was on the records,, but I had a student for a while who was one of the guitarists IN the band. Never had much good to say about Van, but that's nothing new. I never got the entire story. Cool guy, though.

His son took lessons with me as well, and at 12yo was absolutely nailing SRV style. He moved, but I sure hope he's still playing.

According to this, for "Baby Please Don't Go", it was Jimmy Page:

I always understood Jimmy Page played on the records. Not sure though.

"Baby please dont go" is definitely Jimmy.

Not sure about Gloria, though. 50% chance it could be Jimmy.

You know these guys played sooo many sessions, they can't remember which was which. Certainly Joe Meek got Blackmore and co to record numerous instrumental backing tracks at the end of bona fide sessions - including sessions for their own Outlaws records. They'd hear the same track on the radio later with words and strings being sang by some well known pop singer.

I've always believed that it was Jimmy on "Here Comes the Night" - but I cannot for the life of me remember why!

Best, Pete.

I'd heard Them (among many other groups in the early mid-60s) had session musicians on their hits. Producer/record label decision for sure.
Page was long my pick as the lead guy, but somewhere along the way I'd heard it was someone else. Maybe Billy Harrsion? If so, wonder what else he played on?

Whoever did it , it was nicely played with a rightious, very Electric clean ltone for the time..

thanks for the info(s) :)
