Ok!:huh Yet another "Revelation"......

Since I heard those superb versions from Chuck, Paul & Tomo the last few days, I felt in love with this tune.....then i thought it would be cool to try it by myself. Well, to be honest....I'm far far behind the board dominators here. Anyway....regarding the olympic spirit here is my shot: http://www.pacocasanovas.ch/Pacolation.mp3

recorded with my rusty Gibson ES-347 (014-058 flatwound) and the mighty cool Fractal Audio Axe-Fx (with vintage firmware 7.04):p

Paco you beast!! 14s??? You are manhandling that thing! Great stuff. Don't be so humble.

Great tone too. A bit dark at first but she brightened up. Which Axe patch is that?? A little light in the upper mids. Almost like a wah cocked a little. Really close to a benchmark tone though.

WOW...first time I have truly been impressed with axe fx!

I think you just created a fractal marketing tool.

GREAT playing!

Great playing!! Good tone too. I like your BT better than the one I used.

Why such heavy strings? They make sense to me for playing straight ahead jazz with a warm clean sound to give the notes body, but the more gain I use the better lighter strings work for me. You sound great with them but I'm just curious.

When I read 014-054 flatwound.... I didn't expect this. Man, so smooth and nice playing. Great example of fine performance. I really enjoy your melody alone. Very inspiring! I only played with my memory guessing chords... I should learn this song well and play it again. Do you know who owns this tune? Where did you get this backing track???

Wow....so many nice comments! :beer Thank you very much!!!

Regarding the strings-issue: I have blisters on my fingers now, it hurts :o ouch....Bendings with 014 can kill! :o

Normally I play my ES-347 with a 012-058 set. Unfortunately I damaged the high E in the middle of a live session around two years ago. Because I had no replacement strings on me (shame on me), the other guitarist lend me one of his strings (he uses 014 on his ES-175) and I could finish the session.
In 2007 i brought an old Made in Japan Strat and felt in love with it quickly, so the ES-347 was almost unused for months before I tested some of my Axe-Patches with all my guitars (and the 014 miss-strunged ES-347). The ES-347 has a really nice singing fat tone.....I simply recovered my old rusty guitar the last months. I guess I'll have to buy new strings....mmh?

The Axe-Patch is my own creation. It's based on a Blackface Amp Mod with pre-setted virtual Chandler TubeDriver and a 4x12" Cab IR.

Again, many many thanks for all your responce!

@ Tomo: I'll upload the backer for you as soon as get home! I found this backer somewhere on the net, I guess it was the Nothing but clips forum, where I also virtually met Scott (Lerner) some years ago! The backer seems to be a studio recording session without Robben's guitar track. The tune was originaly written by Russel Ferrante according to some web entries.
I'm not playing the original tune, just the melody as I can remember. I'm also not sure about the chords changes, I did it by ear and inspiration from you, Chuck & Paul! I'll have to check it out in detail. It's a great tune!

Can't comment on the tone, (cheap PC speakers), but I enjoyed the chops.

Paco:

Very nice playing on one of my all-time favorite tunes. It was written by Russell, and was performed by the Yellowjackets, which included Robben at the beginning. I've got some sheet music for it somewhere - I think it came with one of Robben's Blues Videos (REH?). I've always wanted to play this one out - but, I need more talent and more talented backup players for sure, especially on keys!
