I'm on a new exercise regimen and feel great. Once in a while, though, i like to have a few drinks. What should I be drinking?

vodka based drinks in general.
I have also heard guiness is a relativel low calorie beer (surprised me!)
i think not eating crappy food while drinking is more important. I know I tend to eat poorly when I am drinking... (pizza and beer... mmmmmm)

Alcohol is high in calories but very low in fat. Mixers are whatever they are.

I would say Bacardi Light rum and diet cola.

I would say Bacardi Light rum and diet cola.

hmm, that sounds promising....

I love beer, but the light beer choices are less than satisfying. :FM

Here's a pretty good table:

see, that's the thing. I'm more of a beer and wine guy. Whiskey, rum, vodka, gin are probably my next faves in that order.

Not particularly low calore - about 170 per pint. However, as with red wine, there are know to be some health benefits associated with the antioxidants. Moderate consumption (1 per day) of Guiness has been known to reduce risk of heart related issues.

Bad news, boys and girls: Alcohol is metabolized by the liver into fatty acids. Fat gets either stored in the liver (can lead to cirrhosis) or secreted as lipids into the bloodstream (might lead to heart problems). Gross oversimplification, yes, but the bottom line is alcohol = fat!

It only turns into a very small amount of fat, right? Most goes to acetate.

I feel your pain, really. Beck's Light (I think its called) isn't soooooo bad for a light beer, especially since it has 64 calories or something pretty low.

Also (I think about this alot...the wife and I are trying to shed some poundage...well, me mostly) vodka and low cal cranberry juice isn't terrible either.

However, as a beer drinker (beer, as in mostly craft brew) its tough to be satisfied with beer-flavored water.

Tequila straight with a little lime and salt, what else could you possibly want? A relatively low calorie ride on the express train to doing something you wish you hadn't.

Vodka soda with a slice of lemon. Goes down like water and makes ugly girls look like actually doable pieces of ass!

If you're a beer and wine guy, just drink copious amounts of both until you throw it all back up. That gives you the added benefit of being able to eat whatever you want as well.

Red wine then. And it does have some minor health benefits.

Exactly!! Most drinks don't contain that many more carbohydrates than the alcohol itself.

Well, unless you are drinking lots of girly drinks. "Just never liked the taste of alcohol..."

from what i understand most man's drinks are relatively low in calories, other than beer of course. stay away from anything made from grains, and any of that sweet girly shit. Gin and Tonic, Coke and Rum (diet), maybe black velvet if you must have beer. Other than that just stick to classic drinks straight up i guess.
