The P90 Classic is probably the best deal going as far as I can tell! :hiP I kind of like the 62 custom shop reissue as well!

I've had and always wanted to bond with SGs but they never spoke to me

until I got this '65 Special. It crushes ALL my other guitars.

My Historic Korina Reissue

They made a "historic" version????

I have seen a few Custom Shop korina SGs. Unlike my Nashville version, it wasn't a korina "pancake".

Anyway, korina SGs are gorgeous. I'm not wild about red guitars, so I'm a bit biased.

The best looking SG I've seen is the Custom Shop SG Select, replete with maple flametop in a natural finish. Fantastic, albeit amazingly overpriced SG.

This is an SG90 that I owned for 19 years. I used to play it 3-4 sets a night, 2-3 times a week without ever bringing a backup.
I sold it earlier this year.

Great guitar.

My favorite? Hmmm.... I'll never sell the '76 Standard, but I just picked up a 71 Special...

My favorite is the Special, only because I'm still not over the pure excitement of one of the best playing - and sounding - guitars I've ever owned. That may change in a month or two, when I start playing the Standard again...

Those classics are a good deal. The best SG I've ever played was an early 60s LP. If you fine a good one of them...shoooooot dang.

I already have a "NGD" post about it, but I'll chime in anyway. I haven't owned alot of SGs, but my second good guitar ever was a mid '80s SG Special (no pickguard, 2 knobs I think). I traded my first real guitar for it (LP Studio.) It was an okay guitar. It was white.

I had a party at my house when my parents were out of town and I was 15 or maybe 16. Alot of people crashed there and when I woke up, I found that SG on the floor with a burned down cig sitting on top of it. Huge stain and burn mark. I had a friend paint it yellow in his dads car paint shop.

I digress...

Anyway, I've owned that SG Special, a mid '90s Special, a mid '00s Special Faded, and a newer SG Classic. The SG Classic was very cool, but I don't really get along with P-90s all that much.

Just the other day, I picked up this '61 Reissue and I gotta admit, I'm in love with it already. What a fantastic guitar! So that's my vote.

Actually, I forgot all about the 67. How fat is the neck on that one? (I like a chunky neck).

I've been playing this 62RI lately and really digging it. Even though the LP sounds a bit more beefy, I love the necks on these things, and the fact that they are so light weight, they're a blast on stage! I need to lube the nut up on this one!

I've got a '92 Metallic Blue Standard and a recent Classic, and I love both of them. If you're thinking of getting one, consider what neck profile you like. I like the 50's style rounder neck, which both of mine have, but the 60's-era reissues have the slim taper profile. I just don't like the slime taper (that's a typo but I left it because I thought it was funny) but many guys prefer it.

While I really love the '63 Specials and will buy one when I win the lotto, this is my fave...my '94 SG Standard I mowed lawns to pay for. Pups were swapped out for Tony Iommi PAFs (I snatched those puppies as soon as they dropped) and the tuners for Grovers.

http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b186/matches_mal0ne/Guits/DSC00827.jpg

Now, if we're just talking SG shaped guitars, I would kill for one of these:

http://www.jaydeecustomguitars.co.uk/old_boy_sg.html

Again, after that lotto win. I also love my '94 Guild S-100...blows most Gibby SGs out of the water without even breaking a sweat.

I have a '62 reissue that is the best one I've owned, and I've had a couple vintage ones. Really cool tone and plays great.

I rarely play it though, as I have a couple of Gustavssons that get most of my humbucker playing time.

This one, it was the first guitar i fell in love with and i still love it so much.. the store i work in has one... it's hard not to slip into the guitar part and look at it... For some reason, even though i love the huge baseballbat necks, i really like the slim neck on this one. That guitar is amazing on so many levels.
I wouldn't mind getting a '61 style SG in pelham blue with a black guard on it, that would be killer.

EDIT: Yikes, sorry for the huge picture, but it's a beauty

My #1 is my '68 SG Standard. I also love my '62 Special, but it seems that I play the '68 more than any of my guitars. I bonded with it years ago, and it has always been the first one I grab for anything.

"Killer"? Well, you managed to keep from saying that you "love it to death".

When I bought my SG Standard, the Roseville MI GC had a 3-pickup white SG/LP Custom with the sidepull vibrato hanging on the back wall. It was a drooler but I was gunshy over the tuning stability of that oddball vibrato and got an off-the-rack SG Standard.

Unless my brain edited out a zero on the price tag, they had the Custom priced lower than a new-off-the-rack SG 61RI. I still wince when I think of leaving it behind.

My favorite sentimentally is my Pelham Blue SG Melody Maker modded with two P90s, TOM bridge and Bigsby, but my Standard gets way more playing time.

Actually, I forgot all about the 67. How fat is the neck on that one? (I like a chunky neck).

I haven't had this for very long. I had been looking for a P90 SG for awhile and this one showed up locally on Craigs.

The neck is chunky, but not R8 fat. The action is a little stiff right now, but I'm an acoustic and tele player mostly - it feels comfortable to me. I may take it down a bit just to see how slinky I can get it before it gets too loose.

About the only thing I'm not in love with is the bridge. It works OK, but I'd like to crank the tailpiece all the way down - but the strings would break over the end of the bridge. I wish it had an ABR-1, and I may do the conversion at some point.

Gonna enjoy it for what it is for now, and if those things still bug me down the line then I'll deal with them then.

But so far, so good...

My '04 Historic LP/SG with Fralin RS True 60's. I've had a dozen or so SG's and loved them all, but this one is a keeper. I've said that about all of them but this one is still around. Very stable neck for an SG and the neck profile is larger than a 61RI and smaller than the LE Korina I used to have. Perfect for me and tone to die for. The RS True 60's give the guitar a subtle aggressiveness that is perfect with nonmastervolume Marshalls.

But so far, so good...

I've mentioned this several times, but if you want to replace the Nashville with an ABR bridge easily, just get the Allparts Old Style Tunematic, it will drop right on the Nashville posts and solve the problem of the strings hitting the back of the bridge. It's only $24-30, is made well and looks just like an old ABR-1. An easy and inexpensive fix. I had the same problem on my SG Classic and this was the solution, the guitar also sounds better now with this bridge over the cheap Ping Nashville.
