She graduates in 6 weeks with her BSN/Nursing. Doing a tough rotation with hospice which involves kids. She calls me in tears every day. She is such a compassionate kid, loves everyone. She felt so bad for kids who could not go out and some adults who missed seeing kids in their costumes. So, after her rotation Thursday......she trotts off to Walmart and makes a Cat in the Hat outfit with missmatched parts and accessories and goes back and sees some of her patients on her own time Thursday night. They loved it! It also made her feel so much better. A nice twist...she passed out candy to them!
Happy Halloween friends.

She's got compassion for fellow human beings as demonstrated in her deeds, and chosen profession. The world needs more people like her! You're no doubt a very proud daddy!

Your daughter is an amazing young woman. Hospice Homes are VERY tough places to be in.
I take a group of young girls/women to our local Hospice Home every year at Christmas to sing carols.

I couldn't do it. I might act like a jerk at times.....but I'm the biggest crybaby inside. Stuff like this tears me up inside.

Your daughter is awesome. I couldn't do it... I'd be in tears all day long
if I had to work around those kids. I had to take my kid into the local
Children's Hospital a couple years ago to get some blood drawn (only
place they'd do it for some silly insurance related reason) and just looking
around me made my heart sag. I have such respect for the caregivers
who spend their working time in that environment and do their best to
keep their best face on for all of those kids. Sounds like she's just the
thing those kids need.

You taught her well. There is a well of love in some people that runs deeper than any valley. When she's is done giving that deep of caring, maybe labor and delivery? Babies are pretty cute!

You just made my day. If we could all take a little bit of lesson here. She's a blessing, to those kids and you.

What a wonderful thing for her to do. She has a lot of caring and compassion to give - and she's chosen the perfect profession.
This story really touched me.

My father had a Hospice nurse for a few days, God Bless those folks who are literally in the trenches with families in what is without a doubt, the most difficult time of their lives.
That's very cool. You must be proud.
you raised an exceptional human, nice job =)

I have a neighbor that does hospice work, and I'm absolutely amazed by her strength and understated sense of goodwill. There's not nearly enough appreciation for people like your daughter. Folks like her are simply on another level that most of us will never come close to approaching. Congratulations to you... not that you need or want any affirmation, but the fact that she's calling you after some of her toughest struggles says it all.

Good on Her! My Wife is a Hospice nurse so I'm somewhat familiar with the things they deal with. There's a lot more to it than any of us can fathom. Your Daughter is part of a special kind of People.

God bless your daughter. Hospice is a great thing, it takes a really special person to do it. My brother died of cancer 6 years ago, Hospice was a God send for Him and our family. I think it is more important than people realize, more so the youner the person, it gives them some sense of what is going on and what will happen to them at the end.
Again God bless her, she is doing a very difficult thing and she will discover things about herself and others she would not have discovered otherwise.

in ALL sincerity it takes a VERY SPECIAL person to be a caregiver...not many can handle it...and I after going through the death of my dad-in-law and other hospital/hospice related experiences, I AM IN AWE of anyone who can do that job...
Your daughter looks and sounds like one of those rare and special peopls and I think it was great going all out with the cat in the hat outfit...she has a long career ahead of her that will be very rewarding yet im sure there will be lots of tears also!!!
You sound VERY proud of her...and I would be also!!!:)

Kind caring soul and wonderful person. Id be crying alot too if I had that job.
How could one not feel that ? I am sure she brings them alot of joy.
You have raised a good person and a caring one. Id imagine she gets
her strength from within...and above and that has to be how she keeps on
and on doing this. Very difficult job indeed.
Blessings to your daughter for being kind and caring.

Thanks everyone. I am so proud of her. Your kind words break me up as well. She graduates with honors. Did a 4 year bachelors in 3 years and 3 months with only 4 B's through out. She was an average student in high school at best. Honestly, When she was accepted I didn't think she would be able to handle those chemistry and physics classes. Goes to show, when you find what you like you can excel.
I can't really describe hospice workers...angels is the only thing that comes to mind as being semi-close to what I think of them.
To help people that are about to die and their families is extraordinary.
Watching my dad die almost three months ago in his own home is something I am still working through. The hospice nurse was in the house when he passed and was always there to support.
Truly angels.

I teach medical students and obstetrical residents. You can't teach compassion. They either learn it at home or they never get it. Congrats on a job well done!
