Shhhh, don't tell anybody that he's playing through a PodX3 (might be an AxeFX, depending on when it was filmed...)

I mixed for a praise band recently that threw in a KILLER 2-guitar harmony lead solo on a well-known tune.

They kept it short, stayed close to the melody, and it really lifted the song up.

Lincoln is a great player. That video is just the tip of the iceberg. What's great about Lincoln's playing is that he can shred, but still is very very tasteful. Check out "Let Your Glory Shine" from the Today is the Day album. Serious shred and riffing.

And yes he uses Line 6 stuff exclusively, at least as of about 6 months ago. He makes Line 6 stuff sound really good. From the time of the video he would have been using a Line 6 POD X3 Live.

Lincoln also records in his home, and is a great studio engineer. His last album is fantastic, both in sonics and playing.

I hadn't heard that he has switched to the Axe Fx. Is that true? I was hoping to talk to him about Axe FX next time I saw him.

And yes there are many other great players in modern Praise and Worship music. Chris Tomlin has a great band. Also the Passion Worship Band really rocks. David Crowder Band is doing some really cool stuff. There are many many more.

I think it's fun to start a song with a familiar riff and see who in the congregation picks up on it. I started a David Crowder song the other day with a Van Halen riff and nobody noticed. I lead into the traditional hymn "Holy, Holy, Holy" this past Sunday with the Bon Jovi "Wanted Dead or Alive" acoustic riff. Still nobody recognized it. Those of us in the band have a great time with it, but we're still stuck in the '80s!

I love doing that stuff at church! Our media guy played a video the other week that he put together that had Metallica's Creeping Death playing underneath it. I think I may have been the only one who noticed!

I had heard recently that he switched to AxeFx. For good fun on a firday night search YouTube for Steve Perry's solo proformances to see Lincoln Brewster sing backup with a perm.

He is a bonafide Axe-FX junkie now. Here are some pics from a recent Q&A session... Axe-FX all the way.

For what it's worth, Marc Ford plays on the Chris Lizotte "signal hill revival" CD and has some very tasty lead work.

Edit. Sorry, just saw that someone had already mentioned this.

On his self-titled album he plays through a regular POD. Only guy I've ever heard who's able to pull good tone out of one of those.

Those guys are killer, but I've never considered Stryper a worship band. More a Christian metal or hard rock band. Going to see them here in Denver next week, BTW...:dude

Lincoln Brewster is an amazing musician. It'll be fun to hear what he can do with the Axe-FX.

I got the chance to open for Lincoln a couple of weeks ago at my church and I can tell you that the guy is awesome. His whole band is really tight. I got to talk to him and his tech a lot that night and he has definently switched over to the Axe-FX Ultra. Tyler (his Tech) was explaining to me the set-up and it is pretty straight forward with very little effects wise. Him and the band did some impromptu jamming on a whim and it sounded great. I was there through the whole stage set-up and sound check and the guys just spent about 30 minutes jamming out whatever came to mind. I was in awe :bow

My church was doing a LOT of Isreal Houghton stuff; the sax player took all the solos but some of those chord changes....talk about getting my ass handed to me!

Great learning experience though, and made me a much better player.

Met link at a seminar, and he had a Line 6 and he spent a "lot of time reading the manual" and is very happy with as of now. I thought there was a plexi hiding somewhere, until I saw that.

ok no offense

but dont you guys have a forum to talk about this "genre" of music? mainly settup due to the inevitable flame wars that sprung up when these topics were still on the main board?

just look at the title of this thread... don't complain when the trolls come out

Funny thing, but as soon as I saw the title, I was formulating a "Lincoln Brewster" response....:aok

We play at least one of his tunes almost every week. This Sunday it's "Lover the Lord, Your God". I was jamming a bit last night to it - good stuff!

i have played some contemporary worship gigs at a large methodist church, and those have been some of my fave gigs ever, and i RIPPED some solos for sure :dude

i really enjoy those gigs. they pay decently, the crowd loves it, and the PA system and light show is TOP NOTCH.

and if i were a single man........there's plenty of opportunities to meet some nice women at those gigs :roll

No offense taken...sorry, I'm a newby...good guitar playing is good guitar playing, regardless of the tune.
But maybe that's just me. Flame away. :o

> Who says you can't have a ripping guitar solo on a worship tune?

good question. who says that? no one I ever heard has and I don't listen to worship music.

What I meant by my original post was more along the lines of "why NOT a ripping worship leader?"
Lincoln is a MONSTER!

No offense, but the guys I saw that came in...the "pros" that were only there for a paycheck and never listened to the sermon, were missing the entire point of "service" and "giving back" but maybe that's just me.

Lincoln is one of the few Guitarist who does any kind of lead work in the Christen genre that gets any acclaim.

This was fun and I was wondering who played that song I had heard a couple of years ago. The radio version solo really sounds good to.

You're question was sort of meant to tease a little I think. Had you said a worship set, I would say probably not. I would have a hard time justifying that sort of improv during a worship set because it would become about performance and take the focus off of worship a little more than I would feel was appropriate. Now at an LB concert, anything goes.
