What the heck? That dude is blending the best jazz fusion stuff (not that I'm an expert on that or anything) and '80s cock rock licks into one of the coolest leads I've seen. Keep watching, because he gets more and more impressive as he warms up.

Chris

PS - I should've said "THESE" guys can play!

Kind of Guthrie-esque. Pretty cool jam.

They sound like a few decent amateurs jamming. Pretty average compared to what else is out there. Certainly don't hear the "best jazz fusion stuff" or anything even close.

Pretty good player the first guy.

That about summed it up for me too.

When I watch a Guthrie video I am astounded.

This has been posted many times but...

This is a true pro at the top of his game in my not-humble opinion. :p

OK, Guthrie puts things in perspective. Daymn!

"a few scent amateurs " is a little dismissive I think. But Guthrie puts them in perspective as he does most every pro out there.

Those first 2 guys were ripping! Great Techniques, and good Tones. The first guy seemed a little more fluid. But the second guy has a SERIOUS Right Hand!

And GG always sounds great!

Guthrie is the only guy on the planet who can make Steve Morse seem SLOW

Oh man. Oh man. Guthrie has such a ridiculous ear for melody... as good as that of any regular old songwriter out there. And his lines are so hip. And his rhythmic vocabulary... man. He's the real deal... I don't see how anyone could knock him or reduce him to mere "chops", even if they don't have to LIKE him.

I was very impressed...

Orange Jam.. kinda like GG.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xa94LfNGXIA

Then... his "winning" composition.

does a good EJ too on a Korg modeller no less.

Some of you guys take all the fun out of playing. The kids in the first video posted are better players than most.

Exactly. I ran across that video last night and thought they were great, so I shared it. I didn't say they were better than anyone else or anything.

Eh, whatever. I think those two guys in the video I posted were very fun to watch. Killer players.

Really? I think those guys were fantastic. If you call that amateur, I don't want to know what you'd call me!

Do you have any videos of you playing? I bet I'd love it.

armchair quarterback I bet...most guys that can bring it don't criticise others...especially in online forums...

I enjoyed the videos and the performances from both players...I thought the second player might have had a bit more heat which I like a lot...

My amateur comment was off....considering that most of the "pros" that you see on MTV don't know their way around a guitar past 3 chords. I'd say that you're way better than a good deal of the hacks that I see on TV. My comment had nothing to do with pros or amateurs, but rather that there are literally hundreds of guitarists out there who'd play circles around those guys and I didn't find anything particularly wow about that video or the playing...certainly not compared to most of the videos posted here. Heck, just look at the videos already posted in this thread - Brett Garsed, Guthrie etc.

If you can't tell the difference...then there's no point talking about it. My guess is, because of the "cock-rock" licks (as you put it), you were able to relate in part to the jam because you typically don't listen/enjoy/appreciate jazz fusion material and mostly live in 60s-80s hard rock world. And hence the wow factor for you.

I can certainly post a video if you'd like however I don't see how it has even the slightest relevance to this thread. No one here plays in the NFL...but that doesn't stop anyone from comparing players or making any of the umpteen other comparisons that people make in daily life.

LOL! What a ridiculous post.

from a different perspective:

actually sarge, after about 30 seconds they have blown all they have....

seriously, can you actually listen to a CD full of this wankage?

I didn't hear any musicality or melody....just irritating wankage...after about 30 seconds it was fingernails on a chalkboard to me.

and trust me I suffer the same malady :( so I know what I am talking about.

music is subjective to a large degree....for me, I'd rather listen to someone string together some melodic and rhythmic jams....this kinda stuff to me is 100% sterile and lifeless...

Look at the context of the video. Are they playing a "song"?

They're jamming in a music store and having fun....and then released on YouTube for the ultimate deciders on TGP to judge their worthiness in all things guitar.

I'd never heard of Guthrie Govan until this web site, and now these guys are exposed because of this site.

I've also heard stuff from this website that should never be played in public....but I won't say who.

I think these two russian dudes can play mighty well.

Post your own videos if you feel the need to be so critical.

simple:

when you post a video with the caption: 'this guy can play'...you are inviting opinions from those that think the style is irritating.

don't take it personal....sheesh...:beer

I'm not taking it personal....It's not me being criticized.

I just happen to be coming to the defense of two fine young guitar players that are having fun with their skills...which they clearly have... while a buddy sees fit to post it to YouTube....that's all.

The OP didn't say, "the best evar!!!"....he said they can play....and they can.

I'm just looking at the pespective, that's all.
