Oh, you're welcome. I figured there'd be some TGPers who'd be interested. My brother-in-law sent that to me this morning. I've only seen three other interviews with Mr. McCarthy over the years, and this one was pretty good.

I'm re-reading The Road, as I'd like it to be fresh in my mind when the film version comes out. Such an absolutely staggering book...

I am a big fan of McCarthy and his prose style, although I appreciate that it is not for everyone (what is).

I'm not interested in the movie version at all, but I was profoundly moved by the grace, love, and sacrifice embodied in The Road. The harrowing context in which it played out just made the relationship between the father and son all the more moving to me. And the sketched out quality of the landscape surrounding the protagonists felt both stark and hallucinatory to me.

I think old novelists are great examplars for young guitar players, full of youth, foibles and ego. The latter should read more interviews like this.

Well, as long as we're on the topic:

From the review above:
It would be hard to think of a major American writer who has participated less in literary life. He has never taught or written journalism, given readings, blurbed a book, granted an interview. None of his novels have sold more than 5,000 copies in hardcover. For most of his career, he did not even have an agent.

If you knew the kind of bullshit self-promoters and 'arteeests' I spend my life among, you'd know how much I appreciate Cormac.

As a slight aside, though, I really hate this bit about "may be the best unknown..." cliche that reviewer deploys. I'm more a believer of "just say what the **** you mean." As is Cormac, I suspect.

I loved The Road and was concerned about the movie. I feel a little better after reading the interview and other links.

I just read The Road. I just hate the fact the fact that it was such a light-hearted fluff of a book.......

Honestly, it's such an amazing piece of work. Prose that reads like poetry. I could almost taste how bleak the character's reality is. Knowing his ethos and considering his astouding work in History of Violence, I am sure that Viggo will be absolutely amazing in the film.

I enjoyed the interview and can't wait to see the movie.
