Most of my leisure time these days is taken up with music but there was a time when the outdoors and specificlly wildlife art were most important.
I used to carve for competitions drawing on my love of birds and waterfowl in particular.
Anybody else carve.
Here are a couple of my birds and a pheasant feather array I carved.

Thanks,
The goose does look like a cackler in the pic. The neck is thinner than it looks.
It's actually a life size carving of a Lesser Canada.
The duck is a Gadwall drake. The carving was a miniature about
5" long.

I have a collection of 18 Madison Mitchell decoys that my father left me. He was a pretty famous Chesapeake Bay carver from Havre de Grace, MD. They're all from the seventies. I stopped duck hunting a long time ago, but they're pretty cool. Never actually used. (display only).
BTW, those look great!

Gadwall, should have known. I tend to call any of the short necked canadians "cacklers". Heck, I sure can't tell em apart. Your work is amazing, you must have great patience. Great job!

We always used to go to the Waterfowl Festival every November in Easton, MD. The artistry is amazing, and the duck/goose carvings are amazingly lifelike.
Real talent - thanks for sharing!

That's the Ward Foundation show. I've never been able to go but it's the Mecca for this artform. My exhibitions have all been west coast.
