Sure she's given money to causes but that's typical behavior of the power-hungry rich - make more people like you and widen your fan / power-base.

She's also pretty indiscriminate about whatever fraud psychic or self-help book author she chooses to promote on each show.

So I'm not buying her being "one of the good ones" for a second.

Oprah Promises Cable Show "Smaller & Different"; Wants Biz In LA Not Chicago; "Why Would Anybody Stay? It's Freezing Here,
And I Have A Mansion In Montecito That I Haven't Been Able To Enjoy"

To be honest I never liked the Phil Donahue show either. They're all just spin-offs of early 1950's, 60's talk shows and the Johnny Carson show.

Well, the immediate, out of the gate, and intense hating for a female person of color who stepped into shall we say a broader arena last year, as well as references to body parts, racial hair markers, and things one uses for vaginal hygeine, all gave me a little sniff of the funky stank of the angry disaffected male middle aged racist and redneck undertone that sometimes surfaces around here under the guise of values, freedom, and all that other horse shit. No specific allegations were made. I could be wrong.
I do think she's increasingly become a lower middle brow panderer, but maybe that's what her audience needs and deserves.

Another reason I think Oprah upsets a lot of men is that she, through her female empowerment, self-help, book reco work, gets a lot of wives and girlfriends to thinkin,' and this punctures the beer-tv-porn-freedom-king-castle caccoon that a lot of guys like to live in. Oprah makes that harder t sustain.
But again, I'm not an oprah fan.

Definite hottie (but I wouldn't watch The View if you paid me).

I happened to click on the show...That was your first mistake. ;)

No, Rachael Ray must go...Agreed.

My mother is a big cooking show fan and she says that Rachel Ray is a comedian not a chef. Martha Stewart dissed her in the press and when asked about it Rachel admitted that Martha was much more accomplished in the kitchen.

At least she's honest, but her show, like Oprah, Dr. Phil, and The View, is completely unwatchable.

Personally I think the world needs more Oprah's and fewer Limbaugh's, Beck's, O'Reilly's and Hannity's . . . just sayin'.

Absolutely. My wife watches her show and I'll sit down every once in a while if something catches my interest. I tell you what, it's a lot more refreshing to see someone on TV using the medium to do something positive than to sling BS and cause even more tension between Americans like some of these other talk show hosts.

I think more people have formed an opinion of her through the talk of others (people like Howard Stern etc.) than they have by sitting down and actually seeing what she's all about. I don't think you have to like her but a lot of these responses sound like someone who watched about 2 minutes of her show or heard about her weight being joked about and decided she is useless. I was one of those guys too, I'll admit it. But she really has done a lot of good and is a good person behind all the soundbites and mocking she gets.

Will her show going off the air have any affect on me? Not at all..... but it will for millions of viewers. There needs to be more people like her in the world.

Wow, after that post, I need to go eat some meat, watch some porn and drink some beers. I need to get my man cred back. :rotflmao

So pointing out that someone had large hair years ago (using the appropriate term "Afro", which a white person can have, BTW) and now has a butt larger than her old hair is racist?

I'm sorry, but that is completely stupid. It's thinking like this that will be the reason that racism will never truly go away. Those who want to cry racism will always find something to bitch about. I agree. I have watched a select few episodes over the years, and she tries to be well informed, and facilitate conversation, even on difficult topics. As pointed out in previous threads, she has given away gazillions of dollars over the years, and tries to be an agent for positive change.

But I can see how that sort of stuff could be distasteful to some. ;)

I'm saying that people shouldn't take statements that are said with no racial intent and say they are racist. What I mean is that there will always be racism as long as there are people who do these things. Comparing a hairstyle anyone can have to how large someone's butt is is not racist unless someone makes it out to be. As long as silly shit like that keeps happening, there will be racism.

Your education means nothing in this context. You are an idiot, plain and simple. There was nothing racist in this thread until you brought it up. Anytime there is anything posted negatively about a black person there will always be an idiot like you calling people racist for it. Some people tend to see just people and not skin color. Would you have the same objections if someone had said something about Barbara Walters having big hair in the 70's and now she has an ass bigger than that hair (if that were the case - I have no knowledge of the current size of her ass)? Probably not.
