I get paid for a guitar auction this morning and Paypal has put a 24 hour hold on the money so I contact the buyer letting him know what is up and he tells me that they didn't send an e-mail letting him know about this.

I am patiently waiting for the class action suit to begin. Sad part is we will all wind up getting like $8.63 or some such nonsense.

But the happy part is that this MONOPOLY will finally cease!!!

Of course they hold your money for a while. That way they are gaining interest on it instead of you.

I'm always surprised at everyone having Paypal issues. This has just never happened to me.

The only incident I had was someone on the other side of the continent thinking that 8 days was too long for a delivery (I told him it would take 8 days in advance), and he put a claim in with Paypal. All I had to do was produce the tracking information and the instant it was delivered (the next day), they released the funds.

If they are earning interest on the money that is there, I challenge you to compare what they charge to what your bank earns on interest and loan charges. No one is successful in business by giving away services free of charge.

Don't get too excited Joe... I've had them hold a payment before and it's been less than the time they give me. The problem is that they didn't send the buyer an e-mail about this when sending me one. It's one thing to send a guy a bunch of cash and then have him tell you that Paypal is holding it rather than Paypal telling he guy what the deal is.

It comes down to some of these guys wanting something for nothing. Go get your own credit business account and see how much they get you for. Probably more than the Paypal and eBay charges combined.

I won't use PayPal after my last exchange with them and a lot of others obviously feel the same way, but there was a thread recently discussing the effect of refusing PayPal in an ad and the mainstream consensus seemed to be that the seller was probably a scammer and buyers want the protection of PayPal. Hosed if you do, hosed if you don't. I just accept the fact that it's going to be harder to sell something, but I won't ever use PayPal again and think that over time they'll either change their business model or increasingly people will reject it.

I encourage people to go to http://www.netronline.com/ and locate their property tax records, bookmark it and send it along to prospective buyers via PM so they know where to locate you.

I sold a guitar to a TGPr a few months ago.

He said the neck was severely bowed. I had a different opinion and he did a chargeback with the credit card company.

(This is a $2000.00 guitar)

So I have a negative balance.

He DOES NOT send the guitar back. So I email him, and he says, no worries I called my credit card company and reversed the chargeback. I am keeping the guitar. No Worries.

That was two months ago!!!

I keep emailing paypal and they say that they buyer has to get a hold of them. I let him know this!

So, at this point, this TGPr has my guitar, and his money -- $2000.00

And I have not seen anything from him that shows he is trying to help get this solved! ! ! !

Does anyone else find this a little wrong???

by the way, I am sorry for the rant and I did not mean to jack the thread.

Of course they do. Do you think they should just provide the service becasue they're good guys?

It's a way of charging you for the service that you're buying from them. Yes the fees are already there, but floating money for a few extra bucks is a well known (and smart) business tactic.

Well...With the amount of people ranting about paypal
I suggest cutting up all credit cards..never ever using
them at any business because..said business gets whacked
with fee's too when they accept a credit card. Seems the
biggest complaint is fee's and what not so....Whats good for the Goose
is good for the Gander right?? But oh god no..it's only wrong when it's happening to me huh??

Hi Mark!
I was directing my little rant at nobody..It's just that..Like anything else in life..If you don't like the game...don't play it or better yet..Create an alternative to the current one thats Cheaper, faster, better and that every single human being is 100% satisfied with..Simple huh??:beer

Kurtsstuff,

If you're including me with your broad brush, you missed my point entirely. My beef with PayPal has nothing to do with fees or playing the float - that's fair game. My beef is it's heavy-handedness and lack of responsiveness and the complete disadvantage sellers are placed at with "difficult" buyers. I do think it's funny that some buyers think they're not sharing the transaction costs.

I just looked at Wiki and yes, there was a class action suit filed against PayPal shortly after it was created. Like the IBM antitrust suit, I bet some attorneys will spend their entire careers on that one case.

If people were honest and trusting and a bit patient pay pal would be out of business.
Remember when we all sent M.Os and waited to get a guitar . PP really does nothing to help a buyer or a seller in my opinion .
The buyer is at the mercy of the seller period it seems , the worm has turned . Use to be the other way around .
Oh well.

thank Ebay for all this I guess

It does help because you have people that can't buy anything without putting it on a credit card so MO's are out for them.

I also prefer getting my money the next morning and shipping the guitar off that day instead of waiting for a MO.

One reason there is a big problem is lack of any competition for Paypal, they have a monopoly on it. They are getting greedy and unfortunately for many us are a necessary evil of doing business. I wish I had an alternative.
I sold a computer game on evilbay and paypal (one in the same) is holding my money for 21 days without explanation or a way to actually reach anybody to complain. A simple transaction with both people having a large positive feedback rating. It's not a lot of money for me, but it's mine and they are holding it. Bad faith IMO.
Screw them.

Have you talked to the MODS to get him banned or suspended?

Kurtsstuff,

I hear you. You're not affiliated with PayPal, are you? There's a hint of the personal in your comments. I think PP did six hundred and sixty million in Q1 so nothing I say or do will have any effect on them whatsoever. Call me a conscientious objector or a tilter of windmills. Flowers against the wall, but I feel better.

Cheers,
Mark

No affiliation whatsoever other than I'm a paypal user and 100% satisfied with them...

I sent an email off today. He has until tomorrow to respond and get a hold of PayPal.

After that the MODs will be notified.

Also my friend with a certain Federal Law Enforcement Agency in NJ will be notified. And that will not end well for the gentleman.

I think its only a matter of time before PP has some competition.
Hopefully sooner as opposed to later.
Im sure someone out there will figure out a way to outdo PP in their business tactics and keep it fair for both buyers and sellers.
I also have had a few bad PP issues.
One being my acct got frozen for a pedal I sold a few months prior.
I received a notification about my account being frozen and found out it was an unauthorized user of the buyers credit card.
So basically my account was frozen because of his credit card being used by someone else.
Was real happy about that.
They did unlock it after I called though. But still total BS.
