Ok well since I 'been called out..
Not exactly a muscle car with a 318, but someday..... :)
1970 Dodge cChallenger. Currently inoperative. It needs some, ok alot of work. I was this close to pushing it down to the dealer to trade in with cash for clunkers on a new Prius, but didn't have the heart. ;)

Would have been s shame to take that in for cash for clunkers...I'd have given nyour more than that for it!

My dad used to have a 1970 Chevelle SS. It's the only car that he wishes that he had back.
This is what it looked like except the stripes.

He sold the car in the early eighties, and ten or 15 years after that, the guy offered it back to dad. Unfortunately, he couldn't afford it, so the guy sold it to someone else. Ten years after that, my dad gets this call from a guy in Memphis asking about the car.
Turns out the bought it from the guy that bought the car from who dad sold it to, performed a frame off restoration, and sold it.
The car has won best of show 4 out of 5 years in the Memphis car show (at that time), but was now painted black with white rally strips.
The guy said that when he gets ready to sell the car, he'll give dad first shot, but I'm not too hopeful at this point. I would do anything to buy that car back for dad.

In the staging lane at the track..... Our local is 1/8th mile, which is nice for the vert. No bar required at the times I am running. In the 1/4, I'd need a bar.

The day the body left for the body shop. It took 8.5 years to "restify" this car. I did all the mechanical work, and most of the body work that you can't see. I know my limits, so I had a local resto shop do the outside body work and paint.

Not what I would consider a muscle car but it is all stock with the 283 power pack . I should say all stock except the paint which I changed to an original color for that year ( I didn't like the pink )
Car was totalled in 1965 and sat till 1985...restoration took 3 years . I did 95% of the work myself including the paint . It was my last major restoration project , I had done many other cars from the 50's and 60's and it was just a time consuming hobby I enjoyed .

My dad had one.1973 - I have one of those too, and the uniqueness of that model year is pretty cool. In fact, I like the way that it looks with the sleek front end and the chrome rear bumpers almost as much as I like my '72 with chrome front and rear.

Doc, The first 427 was not actually the Big Block Rat Motor as we know it today that gained fame in the 'Vette. The first 427 was actually a "W" motor like the 348, and 409. Very, Very, rare, and only available in the 1963 Impala.
That being said..... the gold Imp in that picture isn't one of 'em.
Jade
This is correct.......good eye, Jade.
The '63 in the photo doesn't have the aluminum body panels, and the engine swap in this particular car didn't occur until the 80's......done by the guy who owned it before the guy I bought it from.

Sweet car none the less!! The fender skirts were the give away. As I understand it, all the Z11 cars were pretty much complete strippers. Dogdish hubcaps, heater delete, Radio delete, etc, etc.
It would be interesting to know how many of those cars are still around. I can't even fathom how much they must be worth at this point.
In any case, if you've got a 427 "W" motor in your '63, that's plum badass all by itself!
Jade
I'm pretty sure the engine is the result of some tinkering done by a local guru if not a total re-pop......the history is sketchy.....and the numbers are no help.
The skirts? Those were made in Tijuana by a lowrider guy!

Thanks... I've had the Camaro since 1994, and was a basketcase when I bought it about 40 miles from my house. Found the Deuce in NY 2004. The Nova had been restored in the 90's, but was in need of some attention due to poor storage. Had to sell the El Camino to buy it, and sold the SS Camaro to buy the '32 Ford roadster I posted in the "Hot Rods" thread.

Fortunately, I got a good deal and did not take the roof.

This is my dad's FrankenCharger. He found it left in a field to rust away, convinced the owner to sell it and brought her back to life. I'll have to ask him what it's called, I'm not sure. Fender did some guitars with a similar flake and it was called holoflake, it also shows all colors when the light hits it right. The wing and some of the trim has the same kind of paint in black.
Here's a shot I took trying to capture how it looks, didn't really work.

I love the Daytona wing. You need to take it all the way and do the full Daytona conversion!
Here is a superbird I saw a few months ago. Old Mopars are nearly nonexistant in So. Cal. so seeing this one out and about was pretty special.

Nice!!! I love that era of Charger. Not the same paint though, but that is a great color!
If I saw a Superbird on the street, I'd stop and take pics too!!! lol, You just don't see those around much. I've got that same one in diecast, a Petty blue Superbird is one of my dream cars.
He thought about putting a nosecone on it for a while but decided he likes it as it is. The wing was just one of those things where it was the right price at the right time. He always liked them and always wanted to put one on the '70 he used to have but never could afford one so he did it when he had the chance. He's done what he wants with it and doesn't worry about purists. He loves Daytonas but he doesn't want to make a fake one out of the wrong year of Charger, even if he doesn't worry too much about historical accuracy lol.

My pops had a 63 w/ a 409.......got rid of it back in the day when it was worth, well, what it cost to fill it up.

Almost every morning on the route I take to work there's a gorgeous chick driving an even more gorgeous blue '68 Camaro SS. Man that car is so freaking awesome! Looks totally stock and super clean. I like to drive behind it and just inhale the exhaust fumes.
Makes my day to see such a beautiful machine.

I did a ground-up resto on a '71 GY3 RR which was in much worse shape than this one. That will be much easier to finish, and you can probably just go with the upgraded ignition. I kept mine stock, but probably should have gone electronic.

wow petty blue too. i showed a roomate in school carsinbarns.com and it didnt phase him. said the superbird and daytona are stupid cars with wings. i had a 67 coronet that i should have kept because it didn't need much work at all. but i sold it and got a shiva half stack in creme/wheat with the money. my dad has a 1970 dodge super bee he is restoring. it was a 383 4 speed, plumb crazy with a white top and interior. now its a 451 5 speed, porsche guards red with black reverse "c" stripe and black interior. looking forward to the finished project. showed him the american racing wheels phantoms and i think they are the next purchase. tried to get him to fuel inject it but he wont. lame dad, lame.

My uncle Buzz bought a '70 Monte new, kept it pristine and put minimal miles on it. When he passed away, he willed it to my dad, who kept it in nice shape also but didn't get around to rodding it before cancer attacked him. The car's been in storage for the past 10 years or so, and needs transmission work but otherwise is ready for a refresh.

Your dad needs to drop a 6 pack on that! I like Torq Thrusts on vintage muscle cars. They make the Torq Thrust II which looks great on retro mods then the classic Torq Thrust D for the total retro look which is a re pop of the original rims. http://www.hubcap-tire-wheel.com/American-Racing/Torq-Thrust-M.html (http://www.hubcap-tire-wheel.com/American-Racing/Torq-Thrust-M.html)
I am thinkng of going with painted steelies for the sleeper look. And it's cheap.

Growing up in Las Vegas in the mid-70s, we used to pass by this car wash and I could recall seeing a car with this funny looking wing on it. It wasn't until the late 80s that I realized what it was! How stupid of NASCAR to outlaw these winged cars because they were "too fast"!

Nope, unfortunately not an SS. Just a (faded) lime yellow with 70s green interior and to complete the kitsch, the black vinyl top :-). I'm pretty sure it was the standard 250-hp 350, but I won't know till I have the car in my garage and can start looking deeper, and find a build sheet, etc.

Lots of great cars in this thread. Here is my 2011 Mustang GT/CS with the new 5.0 engine. I'd say this qualifies as a muscle car, plus it actually handles great too with 412 HP stock from the factory. I have 3.73 gears and a 6 speed manual. Just added Flowmaster mufflers so now it even sounds like a proper muscle car.

Well, there are certainly a lot of nice cars in this thread! I especially like those Yenko Camaros and Novas. A car I always wanted and never owned was a 69 Chevelle SS396. I always wanted to restore one in black.
I'll have to show a few cars of the past.... I was lucky enough at age 17 to buy this 67 Chevelle off my Gramps. He was a mechanic and the car was pristine when I got it. I maintained the body and interior condition, but did modify and beef up the engine and drivetrain. This car still had that new GM interior smell 10 years later! Amazing!
http://i.imgur.com/S28ix.jpg
I had to try out some different wheel options here and there :red Yes, this was a custom ordered factory two tone car.
http://i.imgur.com/lyAwP.jpg
I bought the car in 1976 and everyone could see how Detroit was now crashing and burning, consequently in the 3 years that I owned the car I was constantly asked if I would sell it. The answer was NO ! no no no !! It was car show ready from the day I bought it. All I did was added rally wheels, air shocks and fatter tires.
http://i.imgur.com/WVT4j.jpg
The guy I sold it to kept it in pristine shape. Here is the car in the late 90s still with the original paint. I helped him pop the engine out for a refresh. The car had like 70K miles (I raced it alot when I owned it).

It originally had a bench seat, but I had to have buckets. These are actually 66 GTO seats that I recovered.... couldn't find the 67s which had a release button.

I dumped a LS6 454 in there but left the 327 badges. As soon as the motor fired up, you know that wasn't any 327. :red T400 trans and 3:73 12 bolt posi finished the drivetrain out.

I think 412 hp with a six speed and 3.73 gears counts. I bet that thing moves!
Here are some old pics of mine. I have since put on a ralley hood and I have a 340 I am going to build to about 4-450 hp.
