I baked the bread and did the potatoes three ways: mashed, mashed wasabi, and mashed sweet potatoes. My brother is preparing the turkey. My sister is doing the veggie sides.

I also baked cinnamon rolls for breakfast for the family.

I like to leaven the general jollity and wholesomeness with a dash of cynicism and irascibility. Every holiday begs for such attention.

I will be opening my home today and tomorrow to recent immigrants that wish to learn about American traditions and who are just getting on their feet and don't have resources. I did this last year, as well and we all really had a good time and created many warm feelings and continued ties. I've escorted a few of these folks through immigration hearings, too.

Seems to be consistent with the immigrant origins of our great nation.

Happy Thanksgiving, everybody.

I am only cooking for the two of us...but I am doing it all.

I wanted non-traditional this year, so I decided to go with a Texas flair (born and bred Texan here...with a born an bred New Yorker sharing the table). BBQ brisket (cooked in the cold, rain and snow...so it HAS to be good), onion rangs, corn bread, mashed sweet potatoes and peach cobbler. Pecan pie would have been more Texan, but I simply don't like it, so I substituted the cobbler.

We're doing the turkey and gravy, mashed potatoes, green beans, vegetable casserole, cranberry salad and 3 pies. No telling what all the MIL will fix too!

I made deviled eggs this morning. More of an Easter thing, I know, but every family holiday is better with deviled eggs.

I ran to the grocery store to get the bags you cook the turkey in...
I bathed and got the baby ready
I scooped cat litter
I emptied diaper pail
I scooped dog poop

I got the shit detail

I'm deep frying 2 turkeys- one with thai seasoning and the other cajun. Once you try fried turkey there's no going back to oven. Takes less than an hour to fry a 12 pounder and it's juicy juicy juicy. Did I mention that it's juicy? And the crispy fried skin? Mmmhhhmm.. that's right. Deeeee-licious!!!Best freakin' turkey you'll ever eat.

I did try a Peruvian woman's turkey recipe for oven roast that was fantastic and unique....it still takes 4-5 hours in the oven and alot more work. Happy Holidays to all..

That is the way I like my pecan pie. Looks great.
Me, just staying out of the way watching football and having a beer.

My wife makes the exact same dinner every year that her deceased mother always made. She won't budge on it. No way no how.
Turkey
red hots cinnamon jello
scalloped oysters
greenbean caserole
3 cheese potatoes
all very good

I was going to ignore the day completely and get takeout, but changed my mind and am planning an appetizer of Pate with Mushrooms.

Main course will be sauteed duck breast, brussels sprouts, cider-glazed sweet potatoes, and, in a nod to the day, stuffing and turkey gravy.

Beverages will be Pinot Noir and Ciroc Vodka

Dessert...maybe, I have some lemon sorbet that would be a great palate cleanser between courses.
