My perfect wife took me to Maui. Are there any guitar shops? Also, where can she show off her bikini?
Big Beach, Makena. Don't miss it! Best beach on Maui.

Cross over that little end of the hill, distant left, and there is a nude bead. :)

Not to be snooty, but it is called Makena ...
Go tp upcountry Maui for more old Hawaii charm ... Makawao, Paia, Kula
Take the long drive to Hana. Hang loose. Try to get past doing to being. Cliché? Maybe, but it is part of what keeps people coming back here.

I just looked in a book called Maui revealed and it says that big beach is actually called Oneloa (meaning long sands), simply Big Beach. They also call it Makena Beach, which is incorrect. Makena beach is father north.

Ka'anapali is too "big development" for my taste, but if you head up past there to Napili Bay there's a pretty beach with some nice easy snorkling. From there a trail leads you to Oneloa Bay which is completely different with fair sized waves crashing the rocks and beach - I thought it was kinda cool.
If you're inclined, give Eric Devine (http://www.devineguitars.com/) a call - he made my parlour guitar and makes some amazing ukes. He doesn't usually have any inventory but he likes to talk guitars, and there's a brew pub (http://www.mauibrewingco.com/mbc/MBCHome.html) nearby just off the Honoapiilani Highway that's got some decent beer - have the CoCoNut Porter!

Go to Hana. I spent a month there one afternoon, in a good way.

I think that Oneloa may be on the other side, nearer to Ka'anapali rather than Makena, which is closer to Kihei. But you may be right. Naming in Hawai'i is fairly complex. There are the original names of areas from ancient times, and since the population distribution is very different from then, an area that seems to be all one location may have several divisions from back then. There are also surfer names (like Pipeline and Sandy's on Oahu), and the commonly accepted names are a mishmosh of all of the above, plus the names developers have adopted, etc.
I didn't want to come off as snooty in correcting someone, but I was concerned that if you looked for McKenna, you'd only find a car dealership (not sure if Mike McKenna still has a dealership in Maui, but I think he did at one time). I live on the Big Island, and haven't been to Maui in a while.
In any case, I hope you have a great time. Aloha and A hui hou!

Thanks! :aok
At least no one challenged me on the "best beach on Maui" part. :)

Do the bike tour down the crater. Check out the windsurfing pro's at Hookipa, or take some lessons at Kanaha. Standup Paddle Surfing is a new sport that looks fun to try. Go for some Hikes to all the cool waterfalls. Mama's fish house has some of the best fish I have had, Macadamia crusted mahi mahi stuffed with lobster!

Red Sand Beach, in Hana.
And she won't need the bikini!
