My dad put Office on his 2 year old laptop recently. The computer has since died. Will he be able to install it on his new computer when he gets it? I guess he saved the install file and pass key on an external drive.
Sure will suck if he's out the money now.

He can. Usually it's not a problem, if he does have problems he can call the mfg and they will fix him up.

It shouldn't be a problem - unless he's had it installed a time (or two?) before that on a different computer - there is a limit to the number of installs but I can't remember what it is...

Excellent. Thanks guys. I'll let him know tomorrow.
Somewhat related. Will he get a better deal now with the turkey weekend sales or will he save money waiting until after xmas?

My thought, Usually I would say after new years day, during these times of up and downs, I am not sure this tme around. I am betting on after the season sale.

The copy of Office I have allows me to install it on 3 separate machines.

That's what I'm thinking. Many of the "Friday Only" sales got extended through the weekend due to poor sales. Maybe that bit of consumer luck will spread into the new year.

If by some chance the activation fails, he can call MS to explain it and they can activate it for him.
