1. I don't use CFL bulbs and use regular light bulbs, but we keep all the lights off in our house most of the time so it really doesn't matter. We like it dark and the tv provides plenty of light. So not doing too good so far.
2. I keep the thermostat on 70 during the summer, but make up for it during the winter since we keep it at 66. That is our comfortable temps. We did just replace our furnace and a/c and got a 95% efficient furnace so there goes my big carbon footprint.
3. We have an SUV as our only car, but it is a Jeep Cherokee so it gets better gas milage than what they are asking for. Wouldn't trade it for the world. Need something big enough to haul the dog around.
4. I take nice, long hot showers. Love 'em! The earth could be on it's last leg and when winter rolls around, I am still taking a nice long, hot shower.
5. I don't recycle aluminum cans.
6. I have never burned a tire.

I guess I should work harder to increase my carbon footprint. :D

Ron, I'm with you on almost everything except #5. Why would you not recycle your waste aluminum?

Not all towns pick up recyclables, such as my parents' town. They have to collect them and haul them to the recycler for $.15 a pound. Some people don't want to go through the hassle for a paltry return. Right now my parents have a large utility trailer overflowing with bags of cans hoping the price will go back up, at one point it was $.40 a pound.

Well how else am I supposed to get a bounty of big strong Tomatoes if I don't let my Landcruiser sit and idle next to the garden for a couple of hours each day??

Heard some stuff the other day about carbon accountants that go into the forests and count fallen limbs and stuff and then measure trees to see if thinning would make the bigger trees grow faster and in turn absorb more carbon (google carbon banking) Then once the carbon banks (trees!) are absorbing carbon you have to buy your credits from the trees to store the carbon you produce! The trees are in position to make a windfall! What a great time to be alive!

EDIT: I googled it for you guys! The following is copied from the website sciencedirect.com

The focus of forest-based systems for sequestering carbon has largely been on creating permanent stores of carbon on defined areas of land with a single payment to the forest owner for the carbon. In terms of forest management, this focus leads to two outcomes, continuing production of timber if the forest area is sufficiently large to create an effective permanent carbon pool, or a cessation of harvesting if the forest area is too small. In addition, the payment system for carbon is generally based on matching a specific buyer and seller of carbon using a single payment to the forest owner. In combination, both of these factors create a carbon sequestration system that is too inflexible to attract anything but the largest land or forest owners. The paper presents an alternative system for carbon sequestration, carbon banking. Carbon banking treats sequestered carbon in the same way that a financial institution treats capital. In essence, forest owners ‘deposit’ carbon, in exchange for an annual payment, and those who need carbon offsets ‘borrow’ carbon by making an annual payment. The role of the carbon bank is to aggregate deposits of carbon and use these to meet various demands for carbon. There are a number of benefits of this system. It provides an opportunity for small forest owners with different types, age classes and management strategies to participate in carbon markets because payments are based on current carbon sequestered. It also allows participants in the carbon market to receive current value for carbon rather than what effectively represents the capitalised value of the future benefits of sequestering carbon, thus removing some uncertainty about locking into the wrong value for carbon.

I need to get in on some of this action! Getting paid for watching the trees grow! I am sure whoever pushes this agenda has quite a bit of timberland.

I just don't think about it much. When we moved here and started trash service they never mentioned anything about recycling and never brought a recycle bin. I hate calling companies for service so I have never called them about it. I'm lazy.
We don't go through many aluminum cans. I usually only bring them to work with me.

Naw, only about a buck's worth. Worth every penny!

I say use up all the evil gasoline and let Mother Nature get back to restoring everything. The sooner the better ;-)

I was surprised to hear some towns don't collect recycling.

The thought of burning rubber is really nasty.

When I buy incandescent bulbs, they are in cardboard packaging, and it seems that for the CFL, there is usually plastic involved in the packaging. With all the extra production and disposal of the plastic packaging and the added risk of mercury contamination, is this really better for the planet?

"Turn your thermostat to a comfortable temperature"

Um...isn't that why we have thermostats?

Many small towns don't.

As for burning rubber, if it's on a car..HELL YEAH! If it's in a fire....HELL NO!

Not only that I have heard that all this global warming is causing aberrations like tri and quad testicular donkeys.
And I heard there was even one donkey that was spotted with a 3rd nut that looks just like Al Gore.
It's all just so shocking really.
