I play guitar in a praise band, but occasionally will play bass when we can't line up a bass player. I may also occasionally sub as a bassist for other groups as well. Mostly I'm in churches where the bass can DI into the house system from the line out or where I can mic it. Therefore the bass amp is used mainly as a monitor or personal at home practice. However there may be times the amp needs to cut over drums for band practice, and possibly be used off the stage in a small setting such as a coffee shop or small church room. In the gig settings, the drums will probably be hand drums or will at least be shielded. I play a P/J style Fender Jazz Special (MIJ '87) that has active EMGs and is a 4 string. Also, this isn't a requirement but I would really like one that could double as a guitar amp by running my pedal board or my amp modeler (GNX4) through it.

I beleive I've narrowed down the field to a short list of 3 amps based on my budget, my perceived power/size needs and my willingness to carry heavy objects. Here they are:

Ampeg BA112
Price (new): $280
Speaker: 1X 12
Watts: 50
Weight: 39lb
Harmony Central Sound Quality Rating: 9.4
My thoughts: Best tone? Lacks required volume?

GK Backline 112
Price (new): $300
Speaker: 1X 12
Watts: 100
Weight: 40lb
Harmony Central Sound Quality Rating: 6.3
My thoughts: Worst tone?

Hartke Kickback 12
Price (new): $350
Speaker: 1X 12
Watts: 120
Weight: 42lb
Harmony Central Sound Quality Rating: 7.8
My thoughts: Most power = most volume? Too much $$$?

I play to buy it USED, but put the NEW prices just as a comparison. It could be that some depreciate faster than others, I don't know.

Any help steering me in the right direction here would be much appreciated!

I'm a fan of the Hartke brand in general, and think that would be your best bet for tone and power. As far as used, they'll probably be all very comparable in price.

Thanks! Anyone else? Probably going on a Christmas list in a day or two so I'm hoping to decide soon!

If you like the Ampeg tone and need the volume for the above gigs, I would go for a BA115.

Thanks on the BA115 advice. Yes I've thought hard about the 115 Ampeg but I worry about the weight and whether a single 15 at that wattage will be muddy or flabby. Even if it sounds good, the weight alone may be a deal breaker.

I just realized that I should add one more to the list:

Hartke B600
Price (new): $230
Speaker: 1X 12
Watts: 60
Weight: 40lb
Harmony Central Sound Quality Rating: 6.0-6.6 (similar models)
My thoughts: Lacks enough power? Sounds terrible?

Hmmm. Also add the SWR LA12 I suppose:

Price (new): $300
Speaker: 1X 12
Watts: 60
Weight: 39lb
Harmony Central Sound Quality Rating: 7.7
My thoughts: Enough power?

If you're going used, find an Acoustic b-200 1x15. Has a speaker out to drive another cab if needed, but it's a loud one, with a super EQ.
