I work right by Stone. I'm more of a Scotch guy than a beer guy, but all the employees there are nuts about beer. If you ever have a chance to come to California, stop by their brewery in Escondido. Then you can go to Pizza Port in Solana Beach followed by AleSmith in Miramar.

I'm a serious beer snob. I really prefer Scotch so when I drink beer, it's gotta be
REALLY good beer!
Four of my current favorites:

"Pliny The Elder" by Russian River Brewing
"Bittersweet Lenny's R.I.P.A." by He'brew
"Blind Pig" by Russia River Brewing
"Arctic Rhino" coffee stout by Midnight Sun Brewing

The "Pliny" in particular is TO DIE FOR. It's soooo hoppy it tastes like grapefruit juice.
If you tossed a shot of vodka in it you'd have a "greyhound". It's unbelievable.

http://www.sierranevada.com/beers/images/harvest2008_bottle.jpg

The cornerstone of our Harvest series is the beer that started the modern-day fresh hop ale phenomenon in America, our original Harvest Ale.
Created in 1996, Harvest Ale features Cascade and Centennial hops from the Yakima Valley in Eastern Washington. These hops are harvested and shipped as “wet” un-dried hops—the same day they are picked—to our brewery in Chico where our brewers eagerly wait to get them into the brew kettle while their oils and resins are still at their peak.

I know Portland is a good place for beer with Deschuttes, Rogue etc...

but nothing compares to the Napa Valley of Beer: Colorado.

Denver ranks first in the nation in beer production per capita. More than 100 breweries statewide, most of which concentrated in the Denver Metro area.

Not to mention, we are home to the largest beer festival in the U.S.
