for instance, is it useful as a dirt pedal without using the envelope filter? I'm hoping that it might be a good medium gain drive pedal in addition to the filter sounds and assorted weirdness .....thanks!

I haven't used it in a long time, it is pretty wacky. You can dial in some interesting tones, but I'm not sure it takes the place of a dirt pedal. You can't disengage the filter from what I remember.

I see, there aren't many demo's on youtube, the resonance knob turned all the way down doesn't disengage the envelope filter huh? Hmmm...perhaps some Mick Ronson type cocked wah tones to be had?

i used to have one on my old board that i sold about a year ago. now that i've rebuilt my board back to standard, the Tube Zipper is definately my most missed pedal.
I shall be buying it again soon,

to answer your questions, yes, you can pretty much dial out the filter or notch it over the drive to boost a certain frequency.

For some reason i love the drive sound that comes out of this pedal, it is like the perfect marriage of tube drive with a little fuzz, but not fuzzy sounding, its hard to describe.

For whacky sounds, its great, you can set the oscilation to a certain frequency and set the sensitivty and attack to where you can play above it and when you stop or let the note ring out it will rise to that frequency you set. sounds weird but it is great for some whacked out whale/whammy sounds.

Great pedal, definately maybe my all time favorite just for sounds alone.

...btw that demo is ok, but there is so much more you can dial in with this pedal.

Like mentioned before, I miss this pedal so much and often think about adding it back to my pedal board. Not something you use every song or every set but it's very organic sounding and can be used alone as a distortion unit no problem.
