Whose idea was this?
I'm clinging to a scorching hot cup of tea for the umpteenth morning in a row, wondering where the Sweet Sunny South has gone. I could've stayed in Ithaca if I wanted to freeze my knackers off!

Ooooh! I KNEW you Northern-types wouldn't have any sympathy!
Just don't expect me to be passing out any hankies when it's 100 degrees and 100% humidity in YOUR 'hood!

I just rode my bicycle in to work here in Mass, and I'm toasty warm.
I did wear 3 pairs of gloves, though.

Geez mang - I'm dying to get out. I have no problem with the temp, but the road salt, snow, and black ice out here in the central part of the state is a no go (at least on a road bike).
(oh yeah, to the OP....pfffftttt. I thought well diggers were tough.) :Spank

yeah, I'm riding with 700cx35mm studded Nokian tires, but it's still sketchy out there. It's still really all about technique, though.

It was -7°F yesterday plus windchill and we felt like -17°F. GMA just now showed their weather map. For the east coast it said Blustery, right over Iowa it said Very Cold. It is.

Syracuse is a bit cool - I think it's about a week now hovering below 30. Ithaca, probably about the same I'd imagine!

I hear ya man. This is normal winter weather. Everyone should be forced to endure lake effect snow for at least a couple of months. Whats that? The meteorolgist doesn't see snow in the forecast yet you wake up with a foot of it with a nice 40 mph wind....Yeah, those are always fun days.

And I have to note, its far worse in other parts of the country anyways. The cold is good for you! It helps you think clearly. At least that's what I've convinced myself so that I enjoy the winter more.

Speaking of the thread title, my dad was a well-driller (in Iowa), and worked out this climate, sometimes standing in water, winter after winter.
That was back when men were men.

I'll admit it, I'm a thin blooded southern nancy boy. I'm freezing my nads off this week. Coldest we've seen it in many, many years. Normally I don't even need a jacket during the day this time of year. NOT THIS YEAR!!!!! oh no.......Teens at night and 42 for a high? WTF?

I walked off the plane in Miami (from the Caymens where it was 80+) a couple of nights ago and felt like I stepped in to a freezer. It was 40-ish. :(

Pretty nice in my neck of the woods. A lite jacket covers it. We're regularly at 110 degrees in the summer though. Argh!

Rob,
It was 15deg this morning at my place in Clayton; here at work (office not far from the airport) we have the accuweather regional map up and it shows snow in some parts of of NC today.
This has been the longest 'cold spell' in a while for this area.

I lived in Greensboro for about 6 years - I always found it barmy, er, balmy except when you get Ice Storms, of course.
I don't miss those. On my deck in NJ it's 26.5f and it feels nice but it's going to get cold on Friday, apparently.
This is what we Brits used to call phlegm.
Best, Pete.

15, huh? Colder than I thought.
Ya know, I once was acclimatized to this sort of thing, twice really; stints in Ithaca and the Black Forest added antifreeze to even my thin blood. Still, for bone-chilling, cold, nothing beats the damp, grey mists of the Irish Republic. Something about the humidity just drives even 45 degrees straight to your marrow.

It was 25ish this morning. I saw two motorcyclists commuting to work before 7am. The local lake froze over around Christmas; it froze very early last year too.
