It is with deep sadness that I report the passing this morning of Jimmy Wyble. I got to know Jimmy very well and he never ceased to amaze and inspire with his incredible musicianship, phenomenal guitar playing, wonderous stories and boundless generosity.
Truly, a giant has fallen. He was quite sick over the last few years and was in a great deal of pain. As can sometimes be the case, his release from this existence is bittersweet news. I will miss him terribly.

awesome voicings in that video, my fingers have been aching all week from taking a shot at Ted Greene's "Moonlight in Vermont" and Jimmy just does it like its second nature ...

When I was living in Los Angeles I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Wyble and speaking with him at length. He was a joy of a human being...kind and gracious as he could be. He was wonderfully patient with me, even as I peppered him with questions.
I will miss him and his wonderful playing.
RIP sir...meeting you was a great honor.

I had only been aware of him the past 2-3 years. What a gentle soul, and a powerful player. He reminds me to be more kind and caring.

Had a chance to take some lessons with Jimmy Wyble in the early 1980's. I ended up performing several of his Etudes at my college senior recital. For those interested pick up a copy of his Book of Etudes, and keep his music alive.

I got hip to Jimmy Wyble from his work with Bob Wills. True master half a century ago, and from the recent youtube clips I've seen was better than ever till the end. Always wanted to check his book and counterpoint for guitar. Truly a sad loss...

The Wills band with the twin gtrs of Jimmy and Cameron Hill was always my favorite version. "Roly Poly"!! As demonstrated here he was a constantly evolving musician.

"It's all about learning"- what a great quote!
Sid Jacobs is also a wonderful musician.
Very sorry to hear of Jimmy's bad health and his passing- what a lovely player, and great guy...
What a great life and truly a remarkable guitarist. I'm glad I have so many of his recordings to treasure.
