If it's a non master volume one, it's a very good amp. Even the master version is a very good amp, but I prefer the non.
Lots of folks black face them, but I like them just fine as is. I had about a 70 I wish I'd have kept. Nice cleans, takes pedals well, the verb is legendary.
Heavy beast, but back when I was in the 'SRVWANNABEE' mode my strat and a tubescreamer was all I needed for some great tones.

I have a 1970 which I love. It is considerably brighter than the blackface SR which is ok with me since I am 60 and don't hear highs as well as I used to, especially after playing too damn loud for 40 years. However, the highs can be tamed by leaving the bright switch off and backing off a little on the treble.
The best feature on the amp in my opinion is the mid control. It really makes the amp come alive. I play my Strat through it with the treble on about 8, the mids at 10, and the bass at around 7. It has big fat round tones and low volume and it shakes the floor (literally) when cranked. Breakup is ok with single coils but you really have to crank it. With the humbuckers on my ES-345, it starts to breakup at around 5.
Overall, the amp is too loud for me these days (I bought a Deluxe Reverb for church), but I can't sell it because the SR/DR is such a beautiful combination for an A/B box. Even at low volume, the SR is a bigger "broader" sound than the DR while the latter is more sparkly, and they really complement each other
It weighs a ton, btw, so if you are playing gigs all the time and you are not a young buck, get a roadie.

i've got a 74 SR--non master volume, etc. i just sold a blackfaced 74 vibrolux, which was previously my main amp, because the SR just had its number. mine has the original CTS alnicos, which are downright awesome. they may have been what pushed the super ahead of the vibrolux in tonefullness. i really love having the mid knob and the bright switch for added flexibility--features missing from smaller fender amps like a deluxe or princeton reverb.
i know everyone will agree that they are loud, but to me, it' really not that loud. i crank it to ten sometimes in my little practice room and it's not unbearable. sure, my pant legs sway a bit, but it's not a heck of a lot louder than my vibrolux was.
i played a real 1965 blackface super recently. it was great, but not a ton better than my 74. it had a lot of issues that needed attention, but mine sounds pristine. the blackface one broke up more pleasingly, but i didn't notice the cleans being that much better or worse, not the same, but comparable. the experience has left me thinking i should blackface mine though. especially considering how easy it would be for a qualified tech to do.

I need help with pedals and settings for the super to help excentuate my legato and hammer ons and pull offs.

Funny thing, I was just playing through one tonight. Suddenly, I was playing funk. On a Les Paul, even. Great amp.

jamon, every SR is slightly different and speakers make a big difference. Also, everyone's taste is different. Can you be a little more specific about what it is you are looking for? Also, what kind of music do you play and what guitar are you using?
In general, for hammer ons and pull offs, I always like to have the amp louder than required and adjust the volume by touch.

I agree with you on loudness. I have a '74 that I fully serviced and it isn't as loud as some may think. I think my CTSs have met there maker though. hahaha To old and flubby
