what single coils sound very stratty, but just pack a lot more power? they still have that woody, reedy undoubtedly stratty tone, but are just bigger and more massive sounding. from what i've read, the G&L MFD pickups sound like they would be in this camp. anything from duncan? basically like a 50's underwound fender strat thats seriously jacked up.

Fralin SP42's. They have slightly more mids but basically sound like a huge strat SC. Notch tones are great too. The more familiar Fralin SP43's sound a bit closer to a P90.

The answer to your question is Joe Barden.

I put them in a MIA Strat I had a while back and it made a HUGE difference. Check 'em out.

I'm not sure what you mean by a lot more power - a lot more power than what set of pickups? If we're talking more power than a vintage Strat without any tone shift, I'd say to go with the Suhr Fletcher-Landau set. You can also go the EMG route - I normally abhor them, but the Strat sets are the best of the EMGs IMO. They're louder & they've got clarity, not a lot of complexity, though (once in awhile that's an advantage).

You have to remember that most Strat replacement pickups that are intended to be louder also tend to bulk up your mids & often attenuate your highs. If you like that 50's underwound fender strat tone (as I do too) but just need more oomph (as I often do also), I'd be looking for a clean boost of some sort rather than the pickups.

As far as the other suggestions, maybe the MFDs would work for you, but I've never heard a set of Bardens that sounded vintage (they sound fine & they're certainly loud, but they definitely don't sound like a 50's underwound strat IMO).

Nobody from booteek land will mention them but the imported, cheap, ceramic bar magnet sc's (not unlike the Fralins) are surprisingly good, dropping just a bit of top end clarity and sparkle for fatter bottoms and mids plus greater power. You can probably try a set for about $20.

I have a set of FL Classics, which are very traditional and wonderful sounding. If you go for a set of FL's, I would try the FL Standards, which are slightly overwound. Played at a higher volume, they will likely stay cleaner than the Fralin SP42's, but I doubt they would generally sound as big and fat.

DiMarzio Virtual Vintage are the way to go, plus they are noiseless!
