Which one would you choose the Boss or Malekko?

I tried both, ended up with the Boss. I couldn't get the Chicklet trails short enough, and it sounded more ambient than springy to my ears. I have an original pre-CBS Fender reverb tank to compare with and while the Boss isn't going to deliver the exact same sound, it is still the closest thing in pedal form that I've heard.
It won't do extreme settings with the grace of a real tank, but if you're after more restrained spring reverb, I think it does the Fender spring reverb better than the Chicklet, but that's all it does. The presence of a tone control is a big plus.

Depends on your goal. If you are looking for the Fender sound, go the Boss. If you want more spacey stuff, go for the Malekko.

Thanks guys!
Im going for the Fender spring rev sound.
How "much" do the Boss effect the tone
when bypass`d?

I don't have the Boss anymore, but I'd expect the Malekko to be cleaner than the boss, as I thought the RFV was not true bypass.

All the online samples and videos of the FRV-1 that I've heard don't really do it justice. It seems like the predominant theme of the demonstrations are "hey look, you can play surf with this" but that is not really what it does best.
Here's a youtube video of an Italian guy (sorry, can't understand what he's saying) A/Bing it with the built-in reverb of a silverface Deluxe Reverb, I think this is a better indication of how it sounds than anything else on youtube or the samples on the Boss site:

The FRV-1 is definitely not true bypass, it is buffered like the rest of the Boss pedals. The rest of my stuff is true bypass, and I haven't found that the FRV-1 has a negative effect on my tone.
Generally I am not a fan of most Boss stuff, and I was very skeptical toward the FRV-1.
A friend of mine insisted that I try out his, knowing that I have a '65 Fender tank. I was fully prepared to hate the Boss, but the very next day I went out and bought one myself. I usually have all the controls set somewhere between 9 and 11 o'clock on it, in that range I think it sounds great and reacts to picking dynamics in a surprisingly tactile way.
But beyond that...if you want really extreme spring reverb, buy a real outboard Fender tank, there's no substitute.

I would say 100% the chicklet. I bought the boss too to try out and thought it was absolute garbage. Tinny, harsh and fake sounding. No drip at all. The malekko gets much deeper and sounds great to my ears. Can get very deep and spacious or scale back the dwell for a more subtle sound.

That is pretty much the opposite of my experience. My '65 Fender tank can get pretty "tinny and harsh" if you crank the tone and dwell on it, too. Goes to show you that it is always best to try it for yourself and see if it does what you want it to do, especially with your amp(s).
As for the Chicklet, I thought it sounded very nice for ambient reverb, but it didn't sound like a Fender spring reverb to me at all. Turning the dwell down didn't get the reverb trails short enough for my tastes, either. I really wanted to like it more than the Boss, too. The size was a big plus but it didn't have the sound I needed.

the demo with the deluxe is impressive. I've been pondering a boss, or getting another RI reverb box.

Is the EHX Cathedral out of the running for some reason? It doesn't cost too much more and gives you more options. Then again, I've yet to play one.
