I was stationed in Korea back in '00. There's a HUGE 6-floor + music store with more than 50 small shops on each floor in downtown Seoul....I cannot remember the name of it though...

A lot depends on where you will be?
My son in Daejeon is trying all the night spots and enjoying the food and cheap cost of living. He hangs out with the two other American teachers at his school and they are exploring the area. They are going to Japan for the long weekend in February and he's going to Thailand later in the year for a week.

Daejeon is about 1.5 hrs out of Seoul tho, just so hairsonmychest knows. Where will you be staying?
I'll be in Seoul from 15 Feb onwards, we should meet up. Won't have my gear with me until 3 or so weeks later tho.
One thing u have to try is the budae jiggae. Good food, low cost. :D

Check out the Changdeok Palace. If you like playing 3-cushion, you're all set. There's about 50 billiard parlors on every street. If you like spicy food, definitely try the steamed dough from a street vendor. Take the cable car to Seoul tower. And DEFINITELY checkout that "music store". You can't even call it a music store. It's literally a music mall, with tons of small shops, instruments scattered everywhere, etc. Imagine going to your local mall, and just replace everything with music. I've never seen anything like it.

In February? Just freeze your gonads off.
Eat some kimchi and bulgogi, drink some soju, be happy. I love me some bulgogi.

You could fly over to china, bribe the north korean embassy for a visa, and go on a tour of north korea.
Theres a series of videos on youtube about some guys who did that, search for "guide to north korea".

It's been a long time since I was there (mid 80's - lived there almost 4 years), being in my early 20's it mostly involved consuming large amounts of alcohol...

The next time my son calls me, I'll ask him.
He's in USAF at Osan.
I do know the stuff that is made there, that we pay premium price for "stateside", can be had dirt cheap there...so watch your wallet, LOL!
As Glenn D said...it is cold there! My son has confirmed that part!!

Seriously, why do so many single guys go over there to teach? It's like guys going for vacation to Thailand. Yeah, they're going for the scenery.
I doubt anyone would freely admit to it but I would bet Bill Gates $$$ that's a big factor for most guys. Single guys who can't get anything over here can be treated like a king in places like China and Korea. Have fun over there.

Yep.
I try to get there whenever I'm in Korea, once a year or so lately. They actually wanted me to go this month (I probably would've been there right now, actually), but I managed not to. At this point, I would rather stay home...
