The newly introduced Tube King TK999OD gave me a bit of a flashback (in name only) to the MIJ TK999 that I heard back in the mid-90's at a store in Greensboro. The guy (Kevin) was playing a LP through it into a clean amp. The sound was very 'classic rock' and I liked the sound of it.

Here are my questions, to you ROD-881 owners:
1) Since the ROD-880 appears to be a reissue of the TK999, can the ROD-881 nail some of the sounds of the original Tube King (and then some?

2) Does the 'boost' only increase volume, or does it increase gain as well?

3) Does it get a good classic rock tone? (Marshally mids/gain?)

Or is the ROD-880 just a relabeled MIJ TK999?

Hello...

I have it. Very nice pedal and very underrated here.
1 - yes...very easy
2 - only increase volume but extremely well
3 - yes...perfect for that.

I hope it help and sorry for my bad english.

Thanks Fabriciorj. I'll keep an eye out for a used one.
From the clips on the Maxon site, it seems like it has a LOT of gain.

It funny because the overdrive section has plenty of gain and saturation, and the distortion only saturation.
The overdrive is super, but the distortion not.
The best starved valv overdrive.

funny to hear that
I owned a ROD 881 and I really liked the distortion part more and the overdrive just so-so...
