Saw Michael Landau and Robben Ford in Scottsdale recently promoting their soon to be released CD. I loved Landaus's tone and I was close enough to be able to clearly see his pedalboard which include a Mayer Voodoo 1. Anyone know if these come up used at all on the emporium?
I did a search but this revealed nothing.

I have one. It's kind of a 'scoopy' overdrive (inverted tubescreamer?).

I thought it was more of a Fuzz/Drive pedal.

It's the second pedal he plays. I think it sounds great.

I had one a handful of years back (small box) & I miss it like an ex GF from time to time.

I don't recall it being scooped, just not mid humped.
Way more gain than a typical OD available.
Distortion, not fuzz, but still pretty hairy.
Sounded great on a bridge pickup for rock rhythm w/ an LP or Strat.
The fuzz was less obvious on the bridge pu.
It was cleaner & more articulate sounding.
On the neck, it was more hairy & Hendrixy.
Some very Rat like shades in there.

I should have kept it but I was a very young player @ the time & didn't realize how great it was till years after I sold it & heard some live recordings of myself using it.

That's usually the way it goes.

How well do these clean up with the guitar volume? I love every clip I have heard of these but no one works their volume knob in them.

I should have one arriving in the mail in the next couple of days. I'll check out it's cleanupabilty and let you know!

They clean up very well w/ single coils.

Landau often swaps out the Voodoo for one of the old CoT's *red led* version... plenty of threads on the subject over at Huge Racks Inc aka 'the church of landau' :D

had one for a while but deemed it not robust & gig-worthy due to the plastic pot shafts that are very, very easy to break ...

So far only when he is using a Fender Based amp.
