I have the entire Knebworth concert on dvd (or it's on the How The West Was Won)...first time I saw that I freaked.
Brilliant.
Is it just me or did I not hear any B-bender licks on that Hellcasters clip?

One of my favorites from wayback is Linda Ronstadt's version of Willin' on Heart Like A Wheel, with Dark End of the Street another good one from that CD. Both feature Bob Warford.

As you probably know Gene Parsons and the great guitarist Clarence White of the "Byrds" invented the B bender. He was to me by far it's greatest player and the Rondstadt references(great examples)of Warford are in fact in the exact Clarence style which was actually Clarence's first guitar. They were also great friends. I would pick the "LP", "The Ballad of Easy Rider" by the Byrds as some of CW's best work. Despite the common myth, the live stuff is way over-rated and not representative of his style. The third B bender player, I think in the world at the time, was Bernie Leadon of the Eagles.
If you want definitive examples of the best of Clarence download "My Old Kentucky Home" by Randy Newman, "Tulsa County Blue" off "Easy Rider" or "Old Blue" from "Dr. Byrds."

As mentioned earlier, Clarence White was 'THE MAN'. His original Tele that had the B-Bender installed, By himself and Gene Parsons, was given to Marty Stuart by Clarence's brother Roland. Marty has kept it completely original too. Marty ain't no slouch either when it comes to bendin' strings.

I love Dwight and I love Gram parsons but that was a less than ideal version of Sin City. Dwight himself did a much better one on some gram tribute record. it was a duet with kd Lang I think.

I love the bender, unless somebody just got one and wants to make sure everyone notices it, kind of like a wah. know what I mean?
Marty Stuart plays it great. What about Mike Campbell from the Mudcrutch album? pretty decent playing there too.

Hey Folks -
I hate to tell ya'll this, but ....
I'm pretty sure Jerry Donahue IS NOT using a B bender on this cut. That's all behind the nut bends and 'pre-bends (where he bends the note up before he plays it and then slowly releases the bend).
It's atypical playing, but I don't think he's using a B bender at all on that cut, which actually, is even MORE amazing.
Take a look at the bridge - I don't see a B bender saddle on the B string, I see 3 brass saddles. Also, I don't see him pulling down or up on the neck or body to actuate the B bender - they're usually actuated by the strap attached to either one strap pin or the other, and w/ a G and B bender; BOTH strap pins. I watched the whole video three times - I think I'm right, he's just using his fingers.
Thanks, Dana O. here's the hellecasters playing the beak/the claw:

So Bob Warford is the dude playing on those Linda Ronstadt recordings. Thanks for that bit o knowledge, we had a discussion about that at rehearsal last week.
I love Clarence and Marty's playing, Marty's Hummingbyrd is an ode to Clarence with a lot of great bending.
I am glad someone mentioned Mike Campbell, his bending on the Mudcrutch cd is percectly understated as always.
If i can figure out how to post pics i will post some of my B-bender that Forrest Lee Jr. put in my tele. He does great work.

The guitar that Bob Warford plays was actually Clarence's guitar originally and the second Parsons-White B bender ever made. He posts on the Clarence White forum(now a lawyer) and obviously his style is directly influenced which he will readily admit from the Man. And I agree, those are two great tracks.

Here's a couple of benders at once...Steve Wariner (although he doesn't use his bender as much as some, there's still a B-bender in there), Brad Paisley (I know, I know...that's a G-bender), and Ricky Skaggs has a B-bender in his McPherson acoustic.

For me, Clarence is my guy, bender or not........my "gateway drug" into tele obsession.
BUT......
I played in a country line dance band for years and Olander kicked my ass, every time. First time the singer gave us "Me Oh My Sweet Baby" to learn, I just busted out laughing as I was working it out. All those crazy bender chord fragments he throws in there......beautiful, quirky and perfect.

Bob's bender is not a Parsons, it was homemade with his dad in his garage. I had the great pleasure play with Bob at a few of the CWF jams over the years. Probably the only lawyer-bender duet; now if only we could have gotten Frank Reckard from the Hot Band, an LP, Jr. bender player.
Lots of Frank available on the Emmylou Youtube videos; very fast and clean.

A bender discography also includes Bob Warford on Michael Dinner's "Great Pretender" and several Ian Matthews' '70's recordings.
For more go to the TDPRI bender forum and the already mentioned Clarence White forum, where you can find a number of great southern California Clarence style players.

Years ago I volunteered to the stage crew at a country music festival. One year a closer was Marty Stuart and he was playing the prototype bender that I believe is referred to as the Parsons/White bender. Two tele bodies glued together. Standing in front of that thing as it sat in the stand after the show on a dark stage, bathed in a very dim dark red light.... Quite a memory, let me tell you. I dared not lay hand on it, I kid you not that thing had an aura around it. :D Such a coool guitar.

WOW. Is it just me, or does it sound like that guitar (Clarence's old Tele) is haunted by the ghost of Clarence White? Incredible tones and great playing.
That clip of Paisley, Wariner, Skaggs and Gill was great, too. Terrific playing, and I like the way they all respect each other's talent. A lot of people associate Vince Gill and Steve Wariner with lightweight, poppy country music, but both of those guys are seriously good pickers.

It's a fender nashville with the parson/green bender. I also have one in black. Being the only lead instrument in a yankee country band, I had to try to cover as much ground as possible and these guitars will definately let you do that. My style is more pedal steel type licks vs the hot country stuff though.

The pride of Cleveland, Ms., and has THE BEST music show on all of teevee!!! Kinda scary to look at (we used to call him Eddie Munster) but whatta talent and a great human being! I have heard from folks who have met him at shows, who started slobbering about Clarence's gtr, that he will just hand it to you and say "check it out"! I believe he figures he is just the lucky custodian of the gtr, recognizes he is no more or less a Clarence fan than anyone else, and is willing to share! First time I saw him he was playing mandolin in Lester Flatt's band; he musta been 13 or 14.
I love all the bender stuff offered. I tried a Bigsby palm pedal on a gtr, but I guess they are intended for use with super light-gauge strings. Herculean force was necessaary to operate the levers with my usual 0.052-0.011 set.
