Is it OK to ship speakers in their manufacturer boxes? Is it safe? I have bought or traded several Eminence speakers from TGPers and they were sent in the original Eminence boxes. They all arrived safely and with no damage. The sellers have all been great to work with too. When I sent my speakers out to someone, I bubble wrapped, double boxed them and insured them. The costs were a lot more too, and I feel like I lost money on the deal. I also bought a pair of new Celestion G12-65's from a dealer and they were shipped in the over the counter Celestion boxes which are flimsier than the eminence ones. Fortunately, they arrived OK, but I had an amp delivered by UPS once and the damn thing was sitting on my porch halfway out of the carton.
Maybe for $65.00 ish speakers, its cheaper to insure them and send them in their own boxes. If I spend $30-$40.00 for shipping it doesn't make sense.
Any thoughts?

I always freak out because if you drop a speaker, it's not hard to shift that voice coil and lock the speaker up... that or bend the frame. :tapedshut I over pack mine to withstand a drop.

I always keep the original boxes and double box. The best packing Ive seen is what Jim uses when sending Scumback speakers to you. Those speaker enclosure thingys are great!! I always kept them and used them to sell the old speakers I had. Never had an issue, speakers always arrived safe to the buyers. I think I still may have one left in the garage, I can take a pic if you guys like.

If you think about it, the manufacturer send them via the same routes that we do, and most of them never have a problem.

That said, I'd overpack that mug just to be sure. The manufacturer can eat the cost of one speaker easier than you or I can.

I ship mine in the original box. But, that box is inside another box filled with bubble wrap or packing peanuts

If shipping a pair, I always bolt them together (cone to cone) using 2 or three small bolts with wing nuts. I then pack them in a good box and wrap the frame edge with a strip of fairly dense foam rummer in case the box gets dropped. Fill the box with crumpled newspaper and narry a problem...........

The best method is to fill a large box full of packing peanuts, drop the speaker in there (the raw speaker..no box or wrapping needed), add some more peanuts so everything is real tight, seal it up and go.

You are joking right? I can almost hear the sarcasm coming from the written text but I want to be sure that it's there.

I had a guy send me 2 speakers just like that once. The peanuts were stuck all over the speakers and left chunks of white foam that do not come off. I can't believe that there was no other damage done to them.

Peanuts = BAD!

Little bits of Styrofoam get into every nook and cranny.

Please go update that post!!

It's only OK to use peanuts to fill the empty space in the box if the speakers are wrapped, bagged, or 2nd boxed.
