I've got a Joan Jett Sig Melody Maker with a Burstbucker 3. After trying out some LP Juniors, it seems like a good idea to try a P-90 in the MM.
So, will Gibson's dogear or soapbar fit, or do I have to get a humbucker-sized P-90?

You could get a ring to take a soapbar..

Seems to be the pickguard for me, thanks!
So, do you mount the soapbar in the humbucker cavity, or screw it directly to the body over the humbucker routing? New at this, if it isn't obvious already...
Soapbars usually mount using 2 screws through the cover into the wood of the guitar. That MM is a thin guitar. You may have to glue some extra wood strips to the body of the guitar underneath the pickup to have something to screw into without screwing out the back of the body. Also you will probably have to route out a little to get the P90 to fit in the humbucker route although I'm not sure what kind of route the JJ MM has.
Frankly if it was me I would just get a humbucker-sized P90 and be done with it instead of making all those changes. Then I could go back to stock with no trouble if I didn't like it. I had some Vintage Vibe HB sized P90's and they were great. Try one.
