View Full Version : Q for Axe gurus: MIDI CC's for parameter control

I'm thinking about the Axe yet again. One of the things I got tired of with my other modelers was menu diving, especially for tweaking basic amp and stomp parameters. Perusing the Axe manual, I see:

"The CTRL page configures the external control capabilities of the Axe-Fx. Each item in the list can be controlled by either of the pedals or by a MIDI continuous controller. To set up the control for an item simply turn the value dial to select the MIDI continuous controller number (or desired pedal) that will control that item."

Question: Can amp and stomp parameters such as gain, bass, treble, level, delay time, or whatever, be tied to MIDI CC's? Could a MIDI control surface, such as:

http://www.behringer.com/EN/Products/BCR2000.aspx

which transmits MIDI CC's, be used to do this? Is there a limit to how many CC's could be supported at once? The manual mentions eight controllers, but it's unclear to me what is meant by this.

If it worked, I would rather use something like this for tweaking than having to use a laptop running software.

Just curious at this time ...

There are a number of midi-based floor boards being used with the AxeFx. I use the FCB1010. Others use nicer stuff like LiquidFoot, etc.

Thanks, but I don't want floor buttons to change patches and a wah pedal, I want a bunch of knobs to use as tone controls in real time. I specifically do not want to have to run a laptop to do this. I do realize the utility of the PC program for patch creation, but what I want is the ability to twiddle tone knobs in real time like I can with an amp or pedal.

Anyway, the question stands, can multiple MIDI CC's be mapped to block parameters for real time control?

Oh, sorry. I misunderstood what you were asking. I'll be interested to hear the answer as well. I think it will be "yes", but am not sure.

You might try posting this over at the discussions groups at fractalaudio.com if you haven't already.
