Played the new Buckethead signature Gibson yesterday. I liked the guitar - but man it's HUGE. My small hands strugeled with stretches near the head stock. Hanging next to the other gibson LP's this thing had to be at least 4 inches longer. If they scaled it down to regular Les Paul porportions - I'd buy one. As it is I feel like a 12 year old playing dad's guitar.

Wow. Just read the specs. 27" scale, 24 frets, pretty big neck, and an "oversized, chambered body". Sounds big.

For me, on the other hand, it's the right size -- I have XXL gloves and a comfortable octave plus three notes span on the piano (C to F) and knuckle-dragger arms.

My coguitarist wants one as well, and he's built like Lurch, too. I think it'll be badass for him. :aok

What's a bucket head? I listen to both kinds of music....Rhythm and blues, and I've never heard of a bucket head!

Does it come with the bucket or do I need to supply my own?

He's an Avant Garde virtuoso guitarist. Some of his material is "speed metal" others beautiful acoustic (Colma is a great CD) and still others ambient spacey music (Electric Tears, Population Overload, Chicken Noodles, etc.).

I've seen Mr BucketHead play several times and always thought that his guitar was not regular scale. He's got very large hands for sure.

I like him like I like Zappa. Weird shit but very cool, and always doing something new.

May I ask where you played it? Also, how was the build quality - was it worth the $4000 asking price or did it look thrown together? Any info would be great.

I've had mine on order since it was announced in November, and Gibson is trying their best to not give my dealer any information whatsoever and keeps changing the delivery dates. I was supposed to have it in December.

Gibson might lose an order if they don't get their act into gear.

This is Buckethead, he can play blues, however, he's not a blues guitarist;

How do .010-.046 strings on a 27" scale neck feel?

To me they feel like a size or two higher. Never played .012 but they definitely don't "feel" like .010s on a guitar with 24 - 25.5 scale length.

Va Sickboy, check out the Muse Live at Wembley for more on that sustainer effect thing. The guy who made the video seems to be a Muse fan as well.

Yep, I didn't pay $4k (got it for $2500) but was wondering if the build quality was up to a $4k level.

Buckethead has freakishly long fingers, hence the 27" scale.

I'd like to at least try it. It might look normal on me. I've got a large build as well. 27" is pretty comfortable to play on.

Hey mcmurray - I'm real sorry I never got back to you. It was on sale at Alto Music in Middletown NY. Price was $2,100.00 the guy to talk to there is Phil Keller.

It looked really interesting in person.
