Ok, I listened to the radio (all local stations) on my way to and from picking up the kids from school.
It was roughly an hour total. These are all "Classic Rock" artists, and the stations were varied - so some were classic rock specifically, while others were modern pop stations that play some older stuff, an oldies station (oldies to them meaning songs from the 60s and 70s that were not hard rock), and "adult contemporary" (middle of the road, which includes "safe" classic rock).
In that hour, I heard:
5 songs by one group
4 songs by another group
2 songs each by two groups
And of course many songs by a variety of artists.
And I head "Smooth" twice, but I'm not counting that because I don't hear that every five minutes like I do the above "5" and "4" artists.
So see if you can guess who I heard.
Winner gets the privilege of knowing they are as tired of Classic Rock Radio as I am.

I quit listening to classic rock radio over 20 years ago. I'm sure they're still playing the same songs. Here in Mpls they've still got the same schmuck doing the same morning routine.
I'm gonna guess Zeppelin, Boston, The Who and The Stones.

Ok, I'm going to give you Zep - they were one of the artists with two songs - Ramble On and Black Dog. But I do not mind listening to them, so I'm Ok with that.
Did hear one Stones song - can you guess which one?
Boston was the other day - more than a feeling and 4play/long time. But they don't overplay Boston here (though I know some consider any Boston being played is overplaying them :-)

Eagles, Journey...
Very good. Heard both. Journey - Separate Ways (Worlds Apart).
Do you think the Eagles were 1, 2, 4, or 5?

Journey, Foreigner, The Eagles
Holy crap. Already responded about Journey and Eagles (still looking for guesses as to how many Eagles).
Did hear Foreigner too - Double Vision (and I'm OK with Foreigner, don't really hear enough of them, as opposed to say, Bad Company).

Ahhhhh (that's the wrong buzzer sound - and too bad too - we don't have enough Floyd)

Zeppelin, Tom Petty, The Doors and Boston
Can't say why, but for some reason the classic rock station here doesn't play much Stones stuff. And they only play about 5 Who numbers - I'm sure you can guess which ones. Both bands have great MID sixties catalog that the station completely ignores in favor of the same old early 70's albums over and over and over and over... talk about lame. I'd like to find the turd head that programs these stations and kick him in the ass.

Crap, I was going to play along but even thinking about what the correct answers are is giving me a headache. Man do I ever HATE classic rock. It makes my freakin stomach turn. You know, I wouldn't want to eat steak everyday. Why on earth would I want to hear the same 25 songs everyday?

Since you, Fretless, have access to the same stations I do, I'm going to add a disclaimer to your statement: I LOVE classic rock, but I hate OUR classic rock stations.
By the way, had the radio on again today, same scenario - 2 Fleetwood Mac, and 2 Eagles. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

Yeah, I'm sure we are talking about the same tired station. How Mike Arlo can do that every single day, regardless of pay, is astounding. Regarding my hatred for classic rock...let me rephrase that a bit. First of all I believe the best band EVER is the Beatles (by far) and I LOVE them. Secondly, there are hundreds and hundreds of great songs that did get airplay in the "classic years" that are ignored by the format of the typical classic rock station. From other classic rock bashing threads I don't think the station you and I suffer with is unusual, in fact the complaint universally is that ALL classic rock stations suffer from the same approach of a tired setlist.
I think in the end, however, these stations have seen the research and being that they are a business they are feeding the demographic what it wants. It may be painting with a big brush but I can say, in my observations at least, that those who have these stations on their radios all day are the most closed-minded people I have ever met in my life. Doesn't matter if it's music, or whatever. They seem to be the types who are stubborn and damn proud of it. I know that is a generalization, but I have found it to be 100% true.

I was going to guess that Lynyrd Skynyrd was on that list.
When I was 13 I started listening to classic rock, mostly because WCKG in Chicago wouldn't play the same song twice in one day and had fewer commercials than anyone else, and it meant I got to hear a lot of really cool music.
Sadly, I don't know of any radio stations left that are quite that cool.

Actually, around here, the Free is a welcome relief from ANY Bad Company song.

Update:
So, my wife rode with me yesterday. I switch to our self-appointed Classic Rock station, which is on commercial at the time. Then the DJ comes on, "and now, with an hour long set of commercial free music..."
And I shout out " featuring Eagles or Fleetwood Mac".
The song comes on (and of course, I would be a grand prize winner on Name that Tune because I recognize it form the first guitar notes) and I'm nudging my wife - what did I say, what did I say...
It's "Rhiannon".
On the way home, switched to a different station, you'll never guess what was on. Ok, you will.

It's More Than A Feeling Around here.I like boston. But becasue of my hatred for hand claps in music, More Than a Feeling is my least favorite of their songs, I actually dislike the song, Brad Delp's incredibility aside. Too bad it's most stations seem to think it was the only song they ever recorded.

Suite Judy Blue Eyes
Sister Goldenhair
I only get reception on a couple stations in this tank.

Lots of good material for Classic Rock.....but....
Corporate Classic Rock radio SUCKS!!!
I cannot listen to a cover band play any of the standard 40 or so songs either.
Makes me head straight for the door.
