Is there a big volume diff between 1x12 VS 2x12? I know the sound is more 3 dimensional w/2 speakers, but is there a volume increase?

In my experience, there's a wider coverage area, the sound seems bigger. It's at least some louder, but not double.

Yes. 2 speakers will be 3 db louder than 1 speaker...due to a doubling of speaker surface area.
(If you change speakers, final ohm loads, or any of a number of different variables...you can pretty much throw the "theory" out the window, it will come down to individual situation)

You do have twice the surface area pushing air but the signal is split between the two speakers so they don't work as hard. It does sound louder and more authoritative.

Depends on the cabs & speakers, but in general, it just sounds "bigger", not much louder.
