To be honest I always thought he was a pretty boy hack, and a chump given his recent dumn ass comments, but, after viewing this and some other clips, I have to say he's got some real artistic talent and I have a new found respect for him. Once he grows up I think he'll find his place in music history.

I used to dislike John Mayer's music. Then I was on a date with a girl who happened to be the president of his local fan club, and she insisted that I'd like "Continuum" and proceeded to play it on the jukebox. She was was cute so I relented, and I'm glad I did because I grew to love that album. Turned out the girl wasn't really worth it, but I got some new musical knowledge out of the deal.

The new album doesn't really grab me. I bought about half the songs and find myself listening to only a couple of them.

He is a great guitarist, and as I keep saying, he's one of the few (if not the only) pop guitar hero that the current generation has, and I guarantee that pretty soon we're going to start seeing a lot more kids playing a lot more strats and really wailing away.

Most of his critics focus on his personality or the funny faces he makes when he plays, which I just don't get. I listen to him for his music, not because I think he's cute or like his interviews.

Yeah I was thinking this too. Great guitarist though, even if I don't dig all the stuff he turns out. I saw him live a number of years ago and he was really good.

I'd heard it was going to snow, but I really am hoping that it doesn't. I went for a bike ride yesterday- I just had to ride my "cool" bike- and of course, that's not a bike that has fenders on it. So here I am riding- it snowed a little early and it was still snowing a little bit. Enough for snow to accumulate on the existing snow, and enough to get the pavement wet. So as I'm probably a mile or 2 out of town, I feel my butt getting cold. I thought my jacket was going to be long enough to cover my butt- but no- that spray from the back tire was slathering all over my back and on my butt. So here's my jeans getting all wet and cold. Next thing you know, the seat starts soaking up all that water- and it's working its way under me. Yeah, you know it- Frozen Sack. That's not a good thing. But I still want to at least make it to that one railroad bridge.

Long story short- I made it to the bridge, my ass and sack were froze up and then I realize I could have ridden my "not so cool" bike and probably done it much more comforatably.

I don't know.

Saw him last night in Philly. Great show as usual but he and the band are definitely stretching things out a bit more on this tour. It's great to see John and Robbie playing off of each other more and more. John switched guitars all night long but RM played a Duesenberg Double Cat for most of the show. All the guitars sounded great but the thing that stood out for me was when he used an SG through the Cornish G2 on "Crossroads"...holy shit, what tone!

I just read the RS interview and I think John is a very sad man. I saw the Austin City Limits show and have to admit the only CD I have is continuum. But I think he's a great musician and songwriter and will be around a long while.

I was at the Washington DC show with my wife Saturday night. There was a group of young kids behind me and the guys were clearly there because their girlfriends wanted to go. The best part of this was, half way through the guys say to one another " We need to get some guitars and learn to play". I only went to my first JM concert to make my wife happy because I drag her to all the male dominated crowd guitar slinger shows with me. I have now been to three concerts of his and he never disappoints. He really has introduced guitar solos into a pop/blues setting for the masses.

I didn't think anything of John Mayer as a guitarist until I saw him on the first crossroads tour in 2003. I was really impressed with his playing. I have more respect for him after that. Now if he could only keep from the crazy comments.

Ok the dude plays pop stuff to make money! Some of his stuff isn't really great but Continum kicked butt. I think he is a great guitar player but he doesn't show it much in his money makin' teenager music. But when it comes down to the brass tax, he's makin a killin $$$$$$$$, gettin the girls, and can sling the six string better than most. What else does a single guy want? The guy has skill and good tone.

My take:

1. Good player, singer-songwriter.
2. Continuum is a great record.
3. None of his stuff is downright bad.
4. I enjoy his music and if I could I'd go see him live.
5. I'd love for him to play more guitar-based music / bluesy stuff.
6. He's been saying some stupid stuff lately.
7. 1.

Read the actual interview and perhaps see if you can find youtube footage of him IN an interview before making that an ironclad opinion. People who can't read between the lines or who take his super deadpan delivery too seriously really came away from that with a bad taste in their mouth, and a lot of people who are more familiar with his personality were somewhere between unsurprised and slightly disappointed in his lack of prescience for saying something could be so easy to crucify him with out of context. It wasn't his greatest interview, but he's not exactly history's greatest monster, as a lot of people are painting him now.

I think I'm going to see if my folks are up for having company tonite. They've been having a problem with their printer, and I've fixed it before. We were worried about the weather, but it seems most of the snow went south of here. I could probably head up to my folks' house, hang out with them for a while, make sure the printer's working OK...

That would be nice.

Don't believe the hype. John Mayer can afford to send an agent.

Actually, don't be silly... John Mayer will always be sort of a weenie in my book... until he starts playing Telecasters more often, that is. I only play Teles, I have a giant beard (manly!) and I think I broke my arm yesterday but I still played my gig last night. So basically I'm not a weenie. Ergo, I cannot be John Mayer.
