I'm passed the honeymoon phase with my Mod 50 and I'm still blown away. The vast array of tones I can cover with this rig is impressive to say the least. I don't usually get all giddy over gear but the Mod 50 is so inspiring to play. Most of my gigs are cover gigs so I need to cop a lot of different tones and with the different modules I can go from country to hard rock w/o sacrificing tone.
Bruce Egnater, you are the man :bow

Yes, Bruce is the man. I've got the Randall version. Congrats on the Mod 50.
LOL, glad you are enjoying it Billy, still on the fence about the SE+, may be getting a 101b in trade for it...

LOL, glad you are enjoying it Billy, still on the fence about the SE+, may be getting a 101b in trade for it...I loved the clean tones from the SE+. I would have it converted to a PT. The Womp II should also help some. I wouldn't let that amp go just yet. Give it a little more time.
BTW: I don't like to name drop but Johnny Hiland really dug the SE+50 and he's played Twins for years.

There can never be too many Mod50 love threads. It is my favorite channel switcher of all time, an absolute jewel of an amp. My favorite modules are the SL2 and the T/D. I also have the VX, the BMAN, and the COD. Playing a good strat on the neck pickup through the BMAN at the edge of breakup is just...liquid love, baby. And Bruce and Jeff are great guys who provide product support second to none.

I'm using a T/T and VX for most of my country gigs. I'm picking up a E2 with a BMAN and SL2X when it becomes available.
Have you tried the Tung-Sol 5881's? IMO they are a nice improvement over the Sovtek 5881WXT's.

bkd, unfortunately Jeff is no longer with Eganter amps.
Wags, glad you are diggin' it man. I thought at first, you weren't too thrilled with it. I'm glad you stuck with it, gave it a chance and tweaked it a bit. Sometimes it takes a while..............I certainly love my Mod man. Have been for years now.
I was looking very seriously at the MOD50 for a short while, this after years of no interest in other amps aside from my Fuchs. I talked with Bruce over the phone and placed myself on the list for one with T/D and Bassman modules (if I remember correctly). It shortly thereafter became clear that it would not be feasible to purchase the MOD50 and keep my Fuchs so I dropped off the list.
Fast forward almost 2 years and I bumped into a new Mesa Mark V in a local store. After several demo's I located a used MkV combo and bought it. The Mark V, though very different in it's approach, is what I was hoping to get in the MOD50 - a lot of great sounding amps in one box! I'm extremely happy with the MkV! I do wish, though, that I'd had occasion to try the MOD50 along side the Mesa. That slot is filled for me now but I'm intrigued by the MOD50. I always read the MOD50 threads!

There are several used one's up for sale on Rig Talk. Can't lose too much buying used at these prices........can always flip it and not lose a bunch. Worth a try I think.

I would but I'm happy with what I have between the Mesa and the Fuchs. I'll have to wait for an opportunity to demo one locally to find out what these are all about.

I'm very much interested in the modules and think it is a great way to make one's amp far more versatile. I look forward to the long awaited release of the M2 but Egnater has to make them more available for players to audition them or have an exchange policy at least. Clips don't cut it. You're shooting in the dark too much and all the "modding" disturbs me. One would think that they should get it right "out of the box." You look on the Egnater or Randall forum, and everyone get their's modded and supposedly improved.

I'm picky and see no need to have my modules modded because they sound great. You know how we guitar players are. We brag about how it's the greatest piece of gear ever one week and dump it the next ;)

I have owned many amps, most noteworhty were various Bogners and Soldanos. Have owned my Mod 50 for 3 years, and have played many gigs with it. For me it is the best balance of tone, versatility and functionality. I'll never sell it. They should not be compared to the consumer Egnater amps built overseas like the Tonemaster, Renegade or Rebel...tonally they are light years apart from the Mod 50 or any of the hand built older TOL amps.
I just got the Tung Sol 5881's and will install them when my Sovteks start to degrade. I understand that they are not as durable as the Sovteks but sound more complex. If that is indeed true than I am in for a tonal treat.

You know, I tried the Renegade 60 and I didn't like it.
So I kind of wrote off the MOD 50 because I was told that the OD channel on the Renegade was very close to the MOD 50 SL2 module.
With that being said, I sure would like to try a MOD 50, but here in Connecticut, I don't know a soul who has one who is willing to let me try it out.

So, this may not be the place but have any of you had success using the M9 or M13 in the loop?

I have had my Mod 50 for about a year and a half and I still absolutely love it! I waited over 6 months to get mine when they were having trouble keeping up with the order volume. Totally worth the wait!

Yep, still love the Egnater Mod 50. I LOVE the Bassman, SL, SL2 and EG3/4X. Some of the best tones I have ever had.
I still want a Bogner 20th Shiva though. LOL
One module I think everyone should try is the EG3/4X. UNREAL!

Can you talk more about the EG3/4X? How does it differ from the EG3/4?

EG3/4X? Very thick, good cut, clarity, growl, etc. Even fatter mids than the EG3/4 with more highs on tap. Almost has a Diezel or Bogner vibe.

I'm nearing 6 months of ownership and am still absolutely thrilled with my MOD 50. My only regret is that I didn't find one sooner.

Nice...may need to get one of those.

I have been interested in a 20th Shiva lately, but versatility keeps bringing me back to the Mod 50. I mean the Shiva seems sweet, but limited in my opinion. Nice thing wit trhe Mod is the ability to have a great Fender clean that Bogner can't touch, plus a Plexi tone, and higher gain Marshall tone all in one 50 watt head. The power amp is punchy, warm and dynamic. What's not to like.

I've owned the Shiva (although not the 20th) and it couldn't hold a candle to my Egnater Mod. Both clean and gain are way better than what the Bogner could produce.

Had you tried the 20th? How about an XTC?
What modules you run? I do hear lots of guys say the Mod 50 destroys the old Shivas but the 20th edges out the Mod 50. I would need to play em side by side.
I'd like to try a Shiva next to my Mod to see which one is more inspiring and has better feel under the fingers. That is very important. I haven't played a Shiva in a shile but I do want to try an EL34 20th Shiva.

The Mod50 is still my favorite channel switcher of all time. My buddy just bought one! I'm fired up to get to play through it again.
What's the coolness on the modules these days? I hear about these "X" modules now. What's the scoop?

X adds upper mid cut to some modules. On the SL2 I prefer stock...but I did the bass tight mod. On the EG3/4....X mod adds more upper mids and cut. I like both.
Jarret...you should try the new Shiva 20th Anniversary man.
Either way the Mod 50 is hard to beat. I just don't know I need the versatility any longer. It is as verstile or more so than an XTC.

I got to play another Mod50 yesterday for the first time in years. Those amps are so astounding, its incredible. Just rubs me all kinds of right. And I'm kicking myself in the butt for never having bought a Bman module when I had mine. It sounded great. Tones I've looked for in many amps but rarely found. None that sounded like this, imo.
I might get a chance to place the Shiva 20th this week.

MOD 50. Had mine for about 5 or 6 year snow. I love love love this amp. Dual Bassman & single channel EG3 with X Mod for me. I just use a booster for leads. Incredible amp. It gives me my sound.

I'm looking to add either a SL2, SL2X or a SL to my Mod 50. I'm still digging the DLX-2 and VX, I almost sold my DLX but came to my senses.

Let us know what you think of the 20th Shiva man! Wish it had EL34s.

alathough I own the Randall version, I think it is a good starting point to the mod 50. I have to say with my 4 stock and 1 modded modules I am very happy with the Randall. I will always be on the lookout for the mod 50, if it really is that much better than the Randall it must be a phenominal amp.

I found the Randall version, even modded mods, to be more harsh and the highs were always weird to me.
