The first year (`92) Dual Rectifiers are the only ones I like any more.
I've pretty much have become a vintage Marshall man.

In chronological order from 1981:
Mark IIB / Mark III red / Studio Preamp / Mark III blue / Subway Blues / Lonestar Classic / Lonestar Special / Express 5:25 / Stiletto Ace / Mark V
The only ones I still have are the Lonestars. If I had to pick just one, it'd be the Special.
Or the Classic.
I can't decide...

My question is, are channel 2+3 of the Dual Recto basically the same as channels 3+4 of the Road King and Roadster?
No. I've compared my new (3 month old special order) Dual Rectifier to the Roadster (but not the Road King). The new Dual is a brighter sounding amp. The Roadster is darker.
They both sound great, but I like the brighter nature of the new Dual as it seems to cut better in a band setting.

MK IV wide body combo with matching 1 x 12 cab is still my favorite Mesa rig.

When my Mark IIB (later modded by Boogie to C+) arrived the Fed Ex guy said "What in here...a safe?" and that was without a speaker.
I'm a big Subway series fan. Light, nice tone, light, sound good, loud and light.

A friend of mine years ago had a Mark IIB that he ran with his 335. Great tone, wish I had one.

I love my Stiletto Ace 1x12. I can really cover a lot of ground with this amp. The crunch channel is superb:)

I keep hearing (and reading) great things about the new Dual Recto. What really intrigues me is that the clean channel was supposedly redesigned in the mold of the Lonestar's clean channel. Also, the reverb is based on the Lonestar reverb. But then again, all new Boogie reverbs are based on the Lonestar's.
My question is, are channel 2+3 of the Dual Recto basically the same as channels 3+4 of the Road King and Roadster?
The Roadster is darker/smoother while the new Recto Reborns are brighter/more aggressive.
I've never played a Road King, but my understanding is that they're the exact same preamp.

The clean sections are still totally different in terms of the Road King vs. Reborn.

My one and only - Express 5:50
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-StEyS3kbHRA/TYaMLWA1D8I/AAAAAAAAFjg/AcEXF-qsV08/s512/DSCF6466.JPG
I've played through a Stiletto Ace and a Triple Rectifier and neither one impressed me very much. The Triple Rec sounded good - but I knew that I needed to spend more time with it to get a great sound. By contrast, the Stiletto Ace just didn't capture my attention no matter how long I spent dialing in the tone. It sounded good with pedals, but not on its own.
The Express 5:50 caught my attention immediately and found it much easier to dial in the tone I liked.

I meant Road King vs Roadster. Both have the "Fat" clean mode, which is the "LoneStar" clean.
The Reborns have Clean and Pushed but still lack the Fat clean mode for some reason. That alone indicates that the preamps differ.

I've only owned two Mesa amps. A Nomad that was sold to fund the purchase of my Stiletto Deuce II. Note: two popular Mesa amps on TGP
I get that.
This amp has had a Mansfield adjustable bias mod which is cranked up a lot hotter than its stock fixed bias was, and most recently, a RFT 12AX7 plugged into V1. I got rid of the V30s in the cabinet and installed some Scumback M75s in place of them.
I have no problem showing this rig off on TGP now. In fact, I'm quite proud of it.

I totally love my Triple Rectifier Reborn. It's very responsive and versatile and I can get loads of different tones. I have no problem dialing a smooth tone, almost identical to my Cornford MK50. I own a Bogner Ecstasy, Bogner Ubershall and a Cornford MK50 and various other (not as expensive) and my Triple Rectifier Reborn is the best one.

have owned dc10, mark iii, mark iv, mark v, f50, f30, d180, triple rec, tremoverb, dual rec, blue angel. have played through many many more.
the mark v is my favorite amp, ever. i wish i'd kept the blue angel though. #99 that amp was. the tremoverb was great too, but even heavier than the mark amps. they're all cool amps in one way or another.

Tough call, but probably the Maverick.
MkIV after that.
I did get a chance to play a Heartbreaker once, which was awesome, but always too loud for any band I was in.
That said, I've got a bunch of Mesas, and I like them all.

I had a Sutdio .22 once. I liked it as a nice alternatice to a Duluxe.
Interesting, usually these Mesa threads start off with "why the Mesa hate" , this has been an all-love thread!

Also really, really dig the Stiletto Deuce II.

As I mentioned before, I love both my MarkIII's...but I use to own a Studio 22+ combo in the early 90's that was killer sounding. I might have to get one again. Great for grab-n-go ..tone for days.

All the Mark V users has me really thinking...if there weren't anymore Lone Star Classic short heads...the Mk V has peaked my interest. I may have to get to the Boogie Store just to flip a switch... Lotsa really fantastic players love them. Till then I'm gonna keep the LSC.

I love my Stiletto Ace head (once I found some tubes I like).
tight gain setting on channel 2.
I am very interested in the new dual rec.
Loved my Lonestar Special, and picked it out over the Classic, Roadstar and TA - until it crapped out. I'd consider buying another one.

The new multi-watt Rectifiers.
The latest version is simply the best Recto ever. Tighter, Smoother and a little brighter than the older models. Half power switch on each channel. No pops/dropouts when switching channels. It's the best Mesa I've ever played... and I've played them all.

I have owned a few of them. At low volume the Blue Angel was great, but not as much loud with a band. The only one I regret selling is the DC-5.

I'm gonna have to play another one of these darn things, a lot of folks are liking the reborns. The one that I played at sweetwater a year ago sounded so fizzy it was terrible.

The new Multiwatt Rectos are killer, but you have to get the volume up. While it's one of the best live/club amps I've ever played, it can sound fizzy at low volume levels.

Do the multiwatt rectos have a "lag" when switching channels like some of the other newer dual recs have?
To the OP - I'd have to say my fave for cleans was believe it or not the Stiletto 1st revision I had. Took pedals amazingly too. Fave gain was my mid 90's dual rec. Revision G I believe.

Look what I just found! :idea
This believe it or not sat in a music store for $500 for about a month and I'm not sure when they marked it down, but they knocked it down to $375 and I was looking at it trying to find something wrong with it! :huh
It looks like it never was really used... the worst thing is, it's dusty! I think the speakers are EV12Ls in the bottom and Black Shadows in the top ... I'll have to pop the covers off the back and look.

So, if anyone is an expert on these vintage Mesa cabs:
How long did they make these?
Did they make A and B cabs or were the early ones just shaped different like this one >
http://i.imgur.com/NmQ0m.jpg
This is one I owned for several years and it was a great sounding cab! It's just more like a B cab, but I don't know if they made As and Bs back then?

My main amp now is a Tremoverb head and matching 2x12 cab. My first tube amp was a Mesa dc-5 combo (bought new in '94 and still have in the closet). Really want to try a Lone Star.

Trem-O-Verb. I love that amp.
I've played most of them, all the Marks (owned an original in the 70s) owned and quickly dumped a Nomad. I've really bonded with the Tverb. Just occurred to me that I've never gigged with it. Only recorded.

99' I took a break from my JCM800/2203 and 5150s and bought a MKIV brand new. I loved that amp for the year or so that I used it. That has been my only Mesa product besides a 2x12 recto cabinet.

Tremoverb (never played one, but one of my favorite guitarists used one for years and had amazing tone)
Mark II, insane OD tones, great clean, would LOVE to own one.
Subway Rocket, cool little firebreather, goes to show that boogie can do small simple amps as well as epic channelswitching monster.

My girlfriend bought me a Tremoverb in the mid-90's...both are keepers. I had a IIC+, have a Maverick shorthead, and getting a BA head any day. I got rid of the IIC+ as I found the Tremoverb, to me, offered a far superior sound (pile on). Very eager to try the Blue Angel head. FYI, the Maverick through a 2*EVM10 speaker cab is sonically inferior then through 2*12 cab.

They have so many great amps that makes almost impossible to choose a single favorite. My top five are the MK2-B, the MK2-C+, the Dual or Triple Rectifier Solo head(either dual or triple channel), the Heartbreaker and the MK4.
