So me and a buddy of mine are going to take a trip to Tennessee in a week or two and I was wondering what guitar stores we should check out in Nashville and Memphis. I know about Gruhn but thats about it...

A few nice stores in Nashville: Guitar Center Nashville, Corner Music, World Music Nashville (highly recommended), Superior Music, Gruhn, Gibson Showcase

I'd be scared to go into Gruhns anyway. My system would go into meltdown just being in the building with all those instruments.

All of these plus Cotten Music in Hillsboro village. Tiny store but incredible high end instruments (mostly acoustic -- Collings, Santa Cruz, Olson, etc.).

Martin Music in Memphsis. Tons of good stuff and Eric Martin will tell you all about the BBQ in the area.

Don't worry. For the most part, they don't let the riff raff see the good stuff.

By the way, if you're into acoustic instruments, I'd recommend taking the short 20 minute drive south to Franklin to see Artisan Guitars.

I second Cotten Music if you're into acoustics. Coolest folks in the business. Forget the BBQ in Memphis. They may be famous for it, but I'll never understand why.

I can vouch for that. I was in Memphis early last year and Eric not only told me where the best BBQ was but also a great place for breakfast. The name escapes me so you'll have to ask him. Great guy to deal with too. I've bought a couple guitars from him since I was there.

Umm...maybe cause it's the best f**kin bbq in the world.
I would say Martin's is the best store in town. There is a huge PRS out in front. Play some amps in there made by a guy named Robert Hinson. They have a nice range of quality import gear and boutique domestic stuff. Not huge but def better than Guitar Center. Plus you'll be near the BBQ Shop which is, in fact, the best Bbq in the world. You might also like Paynes, Central, Rendezvous, etc. Breakfast at Bryants or Barksdales or
Mrs. Winners (Haha!)
You also might want to check out St. Blues store. Those guitars are incredible. Best Tele that I've ever played is a St. blues bluesmaster. It's right by Sun Studio.
Go to Stax, go to Wild Bills...blah blah blah...screw it...you're a tourist...go to Gibson and Beale street if u want. It's kinda Bourbon Streetish but Blues City Cafe is. neato and u might find one tolerable band down there...Memphis is groovy
