View Full Version : Are you the only gear head you know?

Or in your local area? I really don't know anyone in Chapel Hill that is a big gear head, or at least like I am. Granted it's a small town and I'm not saying they aren't around here, but I just don't know them. Just wanted to see how many people actually have good friends that are into gear like they are.

The guitarist in my band didn't even know what a tubescreamer was before I let him use mine. Which reminds me, I'm always lending boards/pedals out to friends :) But it's always fun to be the go-to guy for something, but it's a bummer sometimes to not have anyone to talk about gear with face to face, fiddle around with/compare pedals or go to the boutique guitar shops with haha.

Regards,

The Lonely Gearhead

I deal with quite a few on a daily basis! My boss and I are the only two I know of that are really into it though.

I know lots of folks who are really into gear.

A few friends of mine play in bands, don't know squat about gear. They always come to me for help. That tells me two things. The first, I spend to much time in my basement playing for the walls and using gear. The second, I'm not out there playing like I probably should be, using the gear I know about. I need a drink! :drink

My friends and family think I'm pretty much nutz because of how particular I can be with gear...

Heck no. I am even on a gear podcast with a couple other TPGers.

I am 24 and at my age I only know 2 other gear nuts, and only one who is worth talking to about gear, it is a sad story.

I am not the only one I know but the others that I do know all work at guitar shops.

You guys are all I've got. I actually don't know any other electric guitar players (a few acoustic players I enjoy though).

All of the guys I know think a tele is a tele. A strat is a strat. If the amp is Fender and has tubes, it's good.

Most all my friends are gear heads like me.

I'm the only one in my circle. The other guys care about their gear, but I'm more of the encyclopedia whenever anyone needs to figure out what to get, and the hired gun when they go to buy it.

Yes. That's why I spend so much time here, I guess.

Around here you can't throw a rock without hitting at least three or four.

No, turns out my VP is somewhat of a gear head and is getting into building and relic'ing his own guitars bigtime.

We are all gear heads in one form or the other, just different gear for different folks, shoes, purses, clothes, furniture, kitchen gear, power tools, computers, guitar gear.

I'm drawn to them like a magnet to steel.

I need a "sort of" selection on the poll. I know lots of musicians who have varying degree of gear knowledge and lust. But none as in as deep as me.

Know other guitar players, but apart from a delay (ANY delay will do for them) and a overdrive here and there, they could all care less about gear.

No. There is a guy I know who has the GAS pretty bad. Most people, however, just come to my house empty handed and play my gear.

i don't even consider myself a gear head.. so I would have to say I don't really know any... but I don't really hang out with musicians all that much either...

My guitar teacher is very experienced and plays in a popular local band (which does a lot of shows nationally, as well); he's a great player full of theory and song knowledge, but I'm sometimes shocked by how little he knows about gear. I've had to explain a lot of stuff to him, things I thought he would've picked up on over the years playing in various bands, etc. Really kind've odd. And as far as friends... LOL. I can barely get my friends to come checkout live shows with me, forget talking about gear, I don't even bother -- their eyes just glaze over and at best I might get the "dog who was just shown a card trick" look.

Nah, I know a few good guys in that regard.

OP, just keep looking. Chapel Hill isn't *that* small, and you're pretty close to some VERY active music scenes.
