View Full Version : Can leaning my guitar up against the speaker cab de-magnetize the pickups?

I've just recently started leaning up my strat up against my speaker cabinet instead of using a guitar stand b/c the guitar stand was staining the nitro finish. Then I just read some old post that said this may de-magnetize the pickups? I was wondering if this is true or if there are any other ill effects that speaker magnet can have on the guitar pickup/tone? Thanks.

No.

Neodymium magnets in the speakers?

If yes, I don't know the answer. If no, you're OK.

The speakers have Celestion 'H' type magnets.

Some years ago I used to lean my guitar against the amp cabinet. One day the guitar fell over and the neck snapped. Never did find out how it affected the pups though.

Don't do it.. it will disorientate the molecular structure of the neck & body wood so that they won't be in direct harmony with the vibration of the strings. The speakers are not only magnetic but in motion they transmit air waves that can cause much damage on the cellular level.. :)

No I think the magnetic field from the speaker must be many orders of magnitude weaker than what is required to get a permanent measurable change in the pickup. The property that determines this is called coercivity:
