View Full Version : D-Style 212 cab or Fender-style 212 cab for my RedPlate BlackVerb?

I am having a custom 212 cab built by TT-cabs for my RedPlate BlackVerb. The BlackVerb has a Fender Blackface clean channel and a Dumble-style Overdrive. I can't afford to ship an original 212 Redplate cab across the ocean.
Now TT-cabs offers both D-style cabs and Vintage Fender style cabs.
Considering I have both a Fender Channel and a Dumble Channel, it's a tough choice.

I only use a 1x12 w/ an ev but i've heard 2x evm12l, 2x classic lead 80, mix of 1x evm and 1x classic lead 80, and 2x g1265 are all popular choices. The mix of the evm and cl80 sound most interesting to me. Henry recommends the wgs bl80 as superior to the celestion cl80 so that would make as nice cheaper substitute.

I already have a speaker combo (ASW KTS-70 plus Scumback M75)
It's the cab construction I am interested in.

Oval port back. Sounds great for me with all my amps.

Scott,
Have you tried GW's Thiele-ported cab with an EVM-12L? Toneguru's clip in Tag's Dumble thread sounded outrageously good with that combination.

I like oval port back better than open back because it seems to control the bass coming out of the back of the cab better and is more effecient and dimensional than closed back. I would really like to try a front ported cab sometime to get all the sound coming out the front. How do you like the ASW KTS-70?

Well, I can order the oval port on borh cabs, so that's not an issue. It's just the design/wood/bracing that is different.
I really like the ASW KTS-70, just an incredible G12H type speaker. Warm and detailed
