Hi all,
Somehow, I got a virus and it infected one of my windows startup files and I can't get rid of it. I have virus protection but somehow it must have slipped by. I tried a system restore but the virus is still there. Any ideas??
Also, the infected file is called: clbcatq32.dll

You didn't say which virus protection you have.
Download either AVG or Avast (both free) and run a full scan.

My answer to this type of question always pisses people off and turns this type of thread away from the topic at hand, so I will refrain.
I'll just say that I am sorry you got a virus.

When you run the virus scan, be sure to do it in safe mode.

Try a Windows System Restore to a previous date. It won't affect your data.

MalwareByte's Anti-Malware.
Its also free. Seems to find and clear items my regular Symantec protection does not find. Do recommend.

I use Trend Micro Security

Tried that and it didn't seem to work.
I'll try safe mode next. Thanks for the help guys.

I don't find any info stating that's a critical file. Can you manually delete or rename the file?

Spend $70 and get Kaspersky for a two year subscription, it's the best you will get, the free is stuff is at best ok, sometimes you have to spend money in life. Is ruining your computer really worth being cheap?

I agree. Malwarebytes gets the nasty ones other AV programs don't seem to touch.

Upload the file here:
www.virustotal.com
See what engines detect it and use one of them to clean it.

That does not get rid of the virus. It will still be there only to come up again.

Yeah, I do too but whatever makes people feel more comfortable is best. If you're on a PC, malware is a reality for now. No one piece of software is going to fix it because there are whole businesses working against AV vendors constantly finding loopholes. It's why I have a job.
I don't use Macs at home, have never owned one, but I'm starting to tell people its probably the way to go for home web surfing use. I don't mind playing cat and mouse with the malware guys, in fact I enjoy it, hence the job and all. But I doubt the average home user finds it enjoyable. Temporarily, Macs seems to slow malware activity for the home user. That might be the easiest way to go for now if that's an option.
Otherwise I suggest:
AVG or Avast or Microsoft Security Essentials
Latest Firefox + NoScipt addon

Been using those for years (currently MSE on my netbook) and no problems. Surf smart and block those damn scripts popups and web ads.

I got nine trojan dropper files a couple of weeks ago. I ran a malware scan and they were found and quarantined. My computer kept freezing though, even after running clean scans from all the usual suspects (norton, spybot, malware bytes).
There are forums that can help you out, but it takes a little work on your part. They'll have you download software and run scans. Then you print your logs so they can analyze your computer.
I went to this place, there are others. Read the intro so you can post logs before posting your first message. I didn't get any help for a few days. If you don't get help for three days you can repost in "the waiting room".
A dude from the Netherlands helped me out. It took us a couple of days.
The service is free, but I paypaled him 15 euros for his time.
