View Full Version : Dog Names with Rock Theme

Axemeister

I just adopted another dog from the shelter and am about to name him. I like a rock music theme for my dogs:

I have a Ziggy, named for Ziggy Stardust (Ziggy Marley too)

I have a Nigel based on Nigel Tufnel from Spinal Tap.

I was going to name the new dog Elvis, but maybe I am missing out on some others...

Open to suggestions!

I had a Scottish Terrier, who sadly is no longer living, who was named Angus. He was the most human dog I've ever encountered, I affectionately referred to him as "Angus the Wonder Dog". He really seemed to like AC DC music, interestingly enough. I miss him.

I had a 1/2 grey wolf, 1/2 husky hybrid once. He was a spastic creature that loved to put on a show. But alas, he couldn't keep time or keep his mouth shut.

I named him Lars.

Never had a dog until I got married.

My first was a Boston named "Derek".....Wonderful dog, and a great member of the family. Friendly, obedient & gentle. We lost him at age 11 and got....

....our second Boston, "Dylan". Psychotic, nervous, unfriendly, fear-aggressive little monster. Wifey loves him; he lives the wife.

Oh - one night when I was like 16 my friends & I were out drinking beer & raising hell & were at a keg party - the next door neighbors had a young doberman tied up to a tree in the yard with a rope. Poor thing had fur missing around the neck. So we took the dog =) During the caper "Louie Louie" was playing on the car radio, so the dog was henceforth known as "Louie", had the dog for like 12 years after that, great dog..

Oh, and it was girl =)

One of our dogs is named Lars. We got him from a shelter that had named him Marko, but my wife's cousin has a son by that name, so we wanted to change the dog's name to something that sounded like Marko, because he was answering to it. I turned on the TV and there was Lars Ulrich railing against Napster. Done!

Bo-o-ris the pit bull (braaaang)
How about Jeanie or Wendy - just about every Springsteen song seems to be about some girl named something like that
I like Lemmy the English Bulldog ... a lot.

I guess it really depends upon what vibe the dog exudes. My dog is Petie, after the Little Rascal's dog and because he is as smart and loyal as that pooch.

Right now we seem to be in the Angus, Otis or Elvis frame of mind.

The new dog is still at the shelter getting "fixed" as required, but I am sure that we will make up our minds when we pick him up tomorrow

Our male is named Oooga Booga but we call him Ooogie (hence my handle), that was the name he had when we rescued him and he seemed to like it so it stuck. I'm not sure what it means but it sounds kind of musical, a 50s song maybe. :BluesBros

He's adorable. He does have a Ramone's haircut. Going with the Ramones theme what about Bonzo after their song Bonzo Goes to Bitbury? I think he looks like a Bonzo. You also get a Zepplin tie with that name so it's twice as RAWK!

My new (this Christmas!) Jack Russel Terrier is named Jaco, after Jaco Pastorius.

Okay I know he wasn't a rocker very often. But he was certainly capable. If you don't want to picture him with Joni Mitchell or Weather Report, he was with Blood Sweat and Tears for a while.

Here's our Border Collie "Zap". His breeder gives theme names to the litters--his was music related. She thought his head markings looked like a moon, so she named him Zappa, as in Moon Zappa. We shortened it to "Zap". Perfect name for him!

I can always think of good male names but I've always had female dogs and so far, whenever the time comes for a new dog, I end up picking another female so I never get to use those names. If my current girl, Bella, had been male, I think she would have been named Hendrix.

I don't do as well with female dog names for some reason. My mom named Bella, I liked the sound of it and I asked Bella if she liked it and she got real excited so Bella it was. It came from a nickname we have for Bella's mom, Blue Belle(her actual name is just Blue) and we say Bella's full name is Bella Blue lol. Blue's a blue tick which of course makes Bella half so it makes sense haha.

can''t believe it took 68 posts for this. i am a retreiver/lab guy... and at some point i will own a dog named hendrix.

btw... not rock-n-roll.. but meaningful... our current golden... who is a riot... is named norman after norm from cheers. we're currently dogsitting a relative's golden named beemer... after 9/11 hero todd beamer.

amazingly... both names are incredibly accurate for their personalities. so of course... i wonder how a dog named hendrix would behave...
