This one's MINE, not for sale. I am ordering more like this for the store.
New inlay design, quilt top, chambered mahogany and FAT neck.

Bad ass, 7lbs. Incredibly expressive. They outdid themselves for me,bless their pointed little heads.

And how'd they get their heads so pointy?

Looks spectacular - and like the unique touches Robin puts to it.
Used to own a Robin myself (Savoy) - still the most beautiful and ergonomically perfect guitar ever to pass through my hands.

I hate to say it, but I immediately thought the same thing.
The guitar is very nice looking, though. I guess I just don't dig the rounded pickup rings. Oh well, no accounting for my own tastes, I guess. :)

Robin does a universal route for P-90s and humbuckers.

In person, the rings look great, but you are welcome to your opinion. I was unsure at first, but the design makes sense, and it's cool to see that they are not doing a cookie cutter guitar.

Actually I have nothing against Robin guitars. It just that the whole universal pickup route seems lazy to me. Like the thinking behind the swimming pool route on the Fenders.
I'm not crazy about the one size fits all route mentality when it comes to a expensive custom guitar.

I played the semi-hollow one at Junior's, and it is one monster. Sounded almost like a 335. It was a great weight, with the nicest tops I've seen in years. Nice neck, great fretwork. The thing that killed it for me was knowing the re-sale value would be a joke, and it wasn't cheap. If you can get past that, it is one amazing guitar with a lot of uniqueness. I liked the wrap around tailpiece.

Don't buy guitars for resale. Rarely is that a good investment.
Buy them to enjoy them, make music and have fun.

Buy them to enjoy them, make music and have fun. I agree, except I know myself better. Sooner or later, everything cycles. Honestly, when I tried it I was looking for something with more beef (I ended up with a Hamer Monaco Elite). My G&L ASAT Deluxe semi covers the same territory as the Robin.

But then again, I never thought I'd warm up to a Parker Fly either :)

Simply called Tobacco Burst.
They stain the burst on the edges instead of spraying it, and it looks AMAZING in the sun or under stage lights.
The sad thing is that I have been unable to get a pid that really shows how sick the figure is.

Well that guitar is smokin. I noticed the pickup rings right away and I think they're friggin cool. A little twist ain't a bad thing. Not really wild about that shape on the P90's, but to me it looks great on the HB's.
My buddy is into Robin's. He brought a Koa superstrat over last summer that was really sweet, but heavy as all get out. Just the other day he brought a tele style by. Floyd, Dolphin inlays, reverse headstock and Rio Grande's. Unbelievable guitar, except for the extreme weight. What is it with them??

Enjoyed the great pics of Robin guitars! I have a really nice Robin Savoy Classic with a great top that I purchased out of the Robin booth (through my dealer) at a Dallas Guitar Show almost 10 years ago. I'd post a pic, but I am not sure I can do that without it being a web picture. (?) At any rate, my Savoy is still in my collection after several Anderson's and PRS's have come and gone. It does have square PU rings! The neck is great! Not thin, but not too huge. For a semi-hollow arch top it is one of the best!

Hey Greg,
I was wondering, how would you compare your Robin Avalon to a Hamer Studio Custom?
That's a beautiful finish on your Robin!....... it has a great fade to it. The 4th picture is very nice.

The Robin is more "airy", since it's hollowed out a good bit.
The burst is wiped on instead of sprayed on, so it looks fantastic and really brings out the grain. It's like those prismatic baseball cards that we had as kids...move it back and forth and the quilt rolls like surf. Nobody else does it quite like these guys. With so many fantastic guitar builders out there, it's nice to have choices. My Robin shares stage time with my Vintage Les Pauls and newer Hamers. All have a distinct and welcome voice.

Oh,mine's been dropped a few times, once on stage. A couple of dings make a guitar behave. I have been taking this one insted of a few other guitars that I thought I would always use at every gig!

Congrats . Another nice guitar to add to your incredible harem! I actually like the appearance of the pickup rings - maeks the guitar look distinctive and unique. Can't believe I've missed this thread.
Beautiful guitars all, but that last pinstripe flame top is just killer! I like the universal rout idea as well. Gives it a cool unique look.
Are those matching wood pickup rings on the quilt top?
Just curious, is there anything special about the Pigtail tailpiece? I've never heard of them before.

Well, when I first saw the oval pickup rings on the newer Robins, they didn't do anything for me. However, bought an '04 Avalon at a great price through the Robin forum (yes, it has the oval p/up rings), and glad I did! Oval rings and all, I am sold on Robin guitars. The rings look quite cool in person, and are more functional than the typical square pickup "rings". So, after this latest outbreak of GAS has been paid off, I'll probably be lookin' for a Rawhide Slabtop. :dude

The Avalon Classic, with tone chambers, is one of the best crosses between an LP & a 335 I've ever experienced... plus, the addition of coil taps with the great sounding & very soulful Rio Grand humbuckers... it's actually capable of producing a convincing or airy type of Strat-ish tone... moving it into a true working-man's axe catagory..
To top it off the Jumbo frets make it a joy to play...
It so totally smokes the Gibson 336 I once had which was, needless to say, a great guitar...
but this Robin is simply superior... :AOK
Wow..stunning pics Greg....

I'm not crazy about the one size fits all route mentality when it comes to a expensive custom guitar.
The oval pickup rings provide an additional level of pickup adjustment. Quite a bit more work goes into installing the oval rings as opposed to what's required for rectangular "rings". So no, it's not a one size fits all mentality. One shouldn't speak out of ingorance. Bad form.

Nice to see someone doing something other than the F/G/PRS Ripoff... although it is clearly influenced by other guitars, it has its own vibe goin'. Got to lose that Dean headstock though, makes it too reminicent of the Dean Elite. The body is a cool styling exercise!

Man, those singlecut guitars are friggin' cool!
With the P-90's in the round routs, can you change pickups to other (I.E. Lollar) P-90s?
I had a Robin Ranger for a few years that I bought from Junior's Music. Awesome guitar, sounded great, and super light, probably around 6-6.5 lbs, and a HUGE, flamey neck, which I love. I only got rid of it because it didn't have a forearm contour, and that would drive me crazy on a 4 hour gig.
