Here's a few examples. The screen names have been left out to protect the innocent (and prevent all of you from hitting them up for free stuff).
1) About three months ago I started a thread about buying my first REAL Les Paul. I mentioned that the particular guitar I wanted was a limited edition and I was having trouble locating it. Within an hour one of our members here sent me a PM and told me that he could help. He works at GC. He tracked down the guitar I wanted and gave me a crazy good deal on it. After UPS mangled my guitar upon delivery this TGP member located me another one and had it shipped again to my local GC for pickup. He followed up like 5 times to ensure I was happy with the guitar. he got absolutely no benefit from this.
2) I started a thread about liking guitar strings to be slinky feeling. A TGP member PM'd me and told me that he had a bunch of extra sets of extra light strings. He mailed them to me....for free!!!
3) Yesterday I started a thread about wanting to get better at guitar theory and scales. I received a PM from a TGP member that wrote a book about this very topic. He send me a PDF file of his book by e-mail....for free!
You guys rule!!! Thanks!!:aok

I think I'll start a thread about wanting to get investment capital.... :)
I also have had people go WAY out of their way here to be supportive. When I first joined up, I too was wanting an LP, but of the Epi variety. A member in NY knew a dealer blowing some out, stopped by his shop, picked me the best of the lot, then I paid the dealer over the phone and had it shipped to TX. It was a great deal on a great guitar, handpicked by someone with decades more experience in LPs than me.
I've gotten V-Picks, pedals, a synth, and other goodies passed my way as well. It is truly a good community here, despite all the pokin' and jabbin' in the Pub. :)

On that note I'll start a thread about finding video editing, assistant editor or any other post production work. It is so ugly out there. Good to know decent people are still out there.

I agree. A couple months back I had a thread asking about tips and experience regarding children's violin's. The next day I had a PM from a member here offering me a very nice children's violin. He wouldn't even accept shipping! All he asked is that I continue on the kindness for someone else, which I did.
It is nice to know that even in these times, there are good people out there.

+1
I recently had an issue and after attempting to explain to me how to create an XLR cable with a ground lift, another great TGP member just asked for my address and mailed it to me.

When I first joined here I was stupid. Some kind TGP member emailed me and let me know it.
I'm still stupid and my gear is inferior.........but at least I now know it.

Ever since I've joined TGP, I've been amazed at the extremely low A-hole ratio here. There seem to be almost none of the jerks that populate the majority of other forums.
I've helped a few folks out on the forum and I'm happy to do it. I've also had a lot of good dealings in the Emporiums. More importantly, when deals didn't go exactly as one side expected, EVERY instance was worked out and each of us went above and beyond to make things right.
TGP isn't perfect, but I sure like it.

This happened just about a week and a half ago. I was shopping thru the guitar emporium and saw a red 50's Top Bound Esquire that really got me. I thought aboutit for a day or two.... a day or two too long!
When I went back to look for it and make an offer, it was gone! And I don't remember the sellers name. I wanted to contact him/her to see if the guitar sold, was taken off the site, or whatever.
But, I did remember the name of an other member who commented on the guitar. GAT. So, I PM'd GAT to inquire the seller's name. He got back to me the same day, said it probably sold. Then got back to me again with a tip that Wild Wood had the same 50's top bound Esquire in Shoreline Gold. There it was if I wanted it.
He did not need to go out of his way, but go out of his way he did.
Another gent at TGP. Thanks, GAT.

TGP is AbFab isn't it?
Shouldn't it be: Ab / F / Ab ?
I have had smooth transactions as both a seller and buyer here. I've had people share an unbelievable amount of knowledge with me. Aside from a few jerks, the membership here is first class all the way :aok

i had a guitar go missing two xmas's ago and a member hooked me up with a friend at UPS who was a lost and found person and he found it in some warehouse in the middle of nowhere after i sent him pictures and info. this was amazing.
that said, some of the worst, slimiest transactions i've ever done were with people here. and i've done a LOT of transactions.
