Strymon Brigadier is not only the best delay I have ever used but it is the end of the road. Simple (which I love), totally adjustable in all areas, does the echoplex thing of sliding the speed on the tape and having it go to outer space and back, has the best control over the delay trails I have ever heard, This is the real deal and after owning a 2290, Trex, Cmats, Eventide Time Factor and others, this one raises the bar. What a great pedal. Highly recommended. I think I need two.

Must get the reverb next. WOW!!!!

Hey Snider,
After all these months, do you still think the Brigadier is tops? Better than a 2290? Now that's impressive! I'll have to give one a try. Lord knows you were right on with the Tone Dog! Do you run your Brigadier with the Mini Mix in the loops or is it necessary? Thanks Steve!

I love the Brigadier. I find it still to be the top of the heap for what I want. Not going to say it's better than the 2290 but it's easier to use, sounds killer and works great for me. I have been running it straight in but need to try the Mini Mix again and see if that's better/worse.

At least until you try the El Capistan.:Devil

Which is another excellent pedal for sure, and is currently on the board! But I still have my Brigadier which is it's equal but different, and I will definitely be swapping the Brig and El Cap in and out of the delay spot as needs see fit.

Had the El Cap since it came out and it is an insanely good pedal but way different from the Brig. Love them both, use the Brigadier more.

Yup - the brigadier was also the end of the search for me... after going through so many delays.

Not to hijack, but what are the main diffs between the Cap and the Brig? i.e. what can one do that the other can't? I'm not a delay junkie but the Cap is astonishing to me. I can't stop playing through it.

I know I've mentioned this in a couple other threads, so forgive me if I'm repeating, but here's a PM I wrote a while back with someone who was asking about impressions on the differences between those 2 pedals:

Yes! I do indeed have both. I feel they are different enough sounding where I can justify both, and luckily, I don't need $ at the moment so I don't feel compelled to sell one or the other!

It's odd, but they're both very interesting delays that are more different than I thought. The Brig for one is much more straightforward, easy to dial in, and much easier to pick a tap-tempo with. And it serves up the goods - warm, analog delay, and I can dial in a smidge (usually around 9 o'clock) of modulation to make it 'interesting'. And the runaway repeats really run away in that distorted, analog way!

The El Capistan is a different beast... a bit more complicated to dial in, the modulation is a bit more unpredictable and seasickish, and finding just the right balance of Bias & Tape Crinkle to give a more authentic tape sound without sounding too 'broken' was a bit of a challenge. Remembering which mode associates with which tap subdivision is also not the easiest thing. BUT - it comes with multi-tap delay, spring reverb to taste, a simple tone control (rather than the Bucket Loss in the Brig that adds lo-fi artifacts), and the host of other very cool features that make this sound totally awesome. Not to mention the self-oscillation is completely different and turns into this beautiful wash.

To me, the El Capistan is more My Bloody Valentine and Pink Floyd, where the Brigadier is more The Cure and The Police. And I wouldn't like to have to choose between 'which sounds / pedal I wanted more'!

I know donbarzini sold his Brigadier, even though I told him not to! But as for me, I'm keeping both for sure!!

Ok, slight hijack....

For those that have used the Brig for a while, maybe you can tell me how to get triplets correctly...

What I do is set on Quarter, then tap the beat, then switch to Triplets to hopefully get trips to the original beat... It's not working for me. What am I doing wrong?

Moving the switch after tapping in the tempo will do nothing. You have to set the switch to the subdivision you want first, then tap. I made that same mistake at first as well!

I'll have to give a Brigs a try with the Tone Dog. As already discussed, the El Cap is not working in the loop of my Tone Dog like I was hoping for. I'll get a 2290 before it is over but will give the Brigs a try as it very well could be it for me. I don't monkey a ton with delay tones anyway. I'm kind of a set it and forget it kind of player. Some songs I don't use delay at all, most I use a subtle slap back, and for a few I use a heavy delay. The 2290 was so overkill for me in the past but...for those two delay settings I'm looking for it was worth it's price in gold to my ears. I'll bet the Brigs will keep me happy for awhile. Thanks-again-Snider!
