At my age and some age related lifting problems, I think its time to give up using the 2x12 Cab on gigs. I always pay for it the next few days.

I still like the presence you get from having a 2x12 on gigs. So I’m thinking its time to try running a pair of 1x12 cabs.

Right now I have a Pure Sixty Four 1x12 ported cab with the Pure Sixty Four Silver series II speaker. The Silver Series speaker is based on the G12-65, but its been described as having smoother mids and extended highs.

I wonder if there is a 1x12 cab, speaker combination that would work well with the cab I have.

Or if anyone has any other cab/speaker suggestions that work well together give me your ideas.

The cabs/speakers would be for Fender cleans and Marshall overdrives.

Thanks

This is what I've been doing for the last few years. Nice 1x12 combo for rehearsals and most gigs, add 1x12 ext cab for larger venues. If you like the sounds you are getting from your current cab/speaker, I'd just duplicate it.

My favorite sounding 1/12 cabs of all time are the oversized 1/12, open back that Mojo sells...love them so much I bought 2 of them...They're incredible....

I've seen this kind of posts a few times by now ... then I ask myself .. are you carrying the cab all by yourself?!

Even carrying 1x12's isn't that good for your back. I think it's better to invest in transport material (belts, plates with wheels, ask for help, ...).

I'm with you Ken. That's exactly what I'm trying to do - sell some larger cabs and get dedicated 1-12s, in my case, Thiele based 1-12s.

I just got a Forte 3D cab and I'm loving it. I plan to put it on top of a Thiele cab for a nice 2-12 setup...

I like my Mesa 3/4-back (oversized) 1x12 cabinets with the stock Mesa C90 right now. They can sound huge. I'm always curious about different speakers but these work well. I'd like to go stereo SLO-100s at some point and the only cabinets I'm considering buying in the future are straight Soldano 4x12s. The oversized Mesa 1x12s are about 3/4 the size of the Soldano 4x12s.

I use to agree with the OP. I even sold my Avatar 2X12 loaded with a pair of CL 80s. Then I discovered neodynium speakers and as of a couple of weeks ago, I'm back in the 2X12 saddle. This SSP 2X12 is loaded with a pair of Emi Lil' Texas speakers and while I haven't weighed it I'm guessing 40 lbs. which is easily managable even for guys with bad backs like me.

I actually think I would be better off starting fresh with two 1x12 Cabs.

What about a Port City 1x12 OS and another Cab that is Open back? Or would two Port City 1x12 OS cab's give me good dispersion?
