View Full Version : Reamping with the AxeFX

Can you easily prep to reamp with the AxeFX? Here is what I am thinking in patch configuration:
Guitar Input -> FX loop send as the first block in the chain (NOTHING, pure uneffected guitar signal out of the virtual FX send block in the AxeFX to one of the outputs -> one input in my audio interface
-> a standard signal chain consisting of whatever I want. This second "path" would be used for monitoring/tracking purposes, not sure if I would print this audio or not.
Send one set of inputs (ie. Output 1) to one input of audio interface - This could be the completely dry guitar.
Send the other set of inputs (ie. Output 2) to another input of the audio interface. This would be the full signal and I could decide if I even want to print this signal or not, but like I said above this is mainly just to monitor while tracking.
This way I have a recorded track of the performance with completely dry guitar to do whatever I want with it (send out to the AxeFX or my tube amp (or both), tweak in realtime and then print that signal (ie. reamp)
Will this work?

Don't treat me bad.

Is there any particular reason why you plan to run the dry signal through the Axe? I'm looking to do something similar but plan to use my Valvulator to split and buffer the signal so the dry guitar doesn't touch the AxeFx.

I don't have a valvulator and I don't know what that is... but it sounds dangerous!
I am just trying to find the best/cleanest way to get dry uneffected guitar tracks into my DAW while at the same time being able to monitor a workable tone so my performance during tracking doesn't suffer. After doing some simple experimentation with reamping and midi grooves (for drum programs like Addictive Drummer) I think the best way to record is to be completely non-commital; don't "print" anything until final mixdown.

Splitters work well for what you want, however, i dont have a splitter (or want to spend any more cash at present) and track just the way you mention. Works fine for me.

IŽll used this approach with good results

Yes that will work.

It should work, but you might have some latency issues depending on your interface. Those can be corrected with a little nudging.

Hey Gasp, I'm pretty sure you've already sold your Axe, so I don't know how relevant this is for you, but thats the same way I set up my patch for reamping. Put an FX loop right off the input in a parallel path, and then dial in the rest of the signal path.
It's nice because then you get the 'special sauce' going into the computer dry, and when you go to reamp the signal is already affected by the analog components in the 'special sauce'. Good stuff.
