Wow.

Yesterday my son's Cub Scout troop was invited out to an Army Reserve Armory to check out and see their $11M each Blackhawk helicopters. The young Crew Chief that was giving us the hands-on tour told us they were the newest re-fit models and all these were going over to Iraq in June - with him included. Whoa. They were the first ones with this newest version; they even had a 'new car' smell (no kidding either).

It was breathtaking to be non-military and get this hands-on. We were allowed to climb into this thing, take as many pics as we want, etc..

The sheer engineering genius was incredible. It was an honor.

I'd also like to take a second to express my gratitude to those folks serving and those that have.

Here's a couple of pics:

Cool pics! Sounds like fun :aok

BTW, doesn't the "pilot in command" sit in the right seat of a helicopter? ;)

D'oh! Dunno! I was on that side too, but no pics. :D

We were mainly taking pictures of the kids; but I had to get up in there too. :D

Hey, us guitarists are solidly in touch with our inner child!

Did you hum "Ride Of The Valkyries", then hop out and loudly proclaim "I love the smell of napalm in the morning!"?

I would have kept saying "Talk to me Goose!" Then when someone reminded me that Goose flew a plane not a helicopter, I'd have screamed, "Goose, you big stud! Take me to bed or lose me forever!"

See, now I'd have guessed that a Blackhawk would cost WAY more than 11 million!

I grew up in the military with an aviator father (helos and fixed wing). I fully understand your thrill. Back in the day we actually got rides and such. And if you ever ever get half a chance to go to a demonstration ie live fire...run don't walk.

my dad was an Army helo pilot for 20 years...mucho respect...funny, my dad told me in flight school at Ft. Rucker that one instructor told the class that if the engine fails, stand up, turn around, sit on the control stick and let the investigators figure it out
